The stairs going to the storage area above the bathrooms needs to be shown as noncombustible. At the current time there is no note as to what material the stairs are constructed out of. 2 . We need an accurate floor plan showing all uses of the building, so we can determine the proper occupant load to see if the three exit doors currently provided are adequate. Once we have a drawing of the exact layout of the interior of the building, we can figure the occupant load, which will determine the number of bathroom fixtures needed, the number of exits required, and the distance to travel to these exits to see if all areas comply with the Code. Panic hardware is required on all exit doors leading to the exterior. 3 . The Stockroom area over the bathroom and the Utility Room must be constructed out of all metal framing. The floor system should be a metal decking with plywood applied V over the top of it and all walls should be 5/8ths gypsum both sides of the steel studs to obtain a one hour rating necessary for a Stockroom. 4 . The door going into the mechanical utility room should be v/ea three quarter hour, C label fire door, to meet the requirements for the one hour rating. 5 . We need a plan showing the entire fire protection system layout for the building. This would include the installation of horn strobes, pull stations at the exits, S �� l'lsmoke detectors in the assembly areas, heat detectors and e� ��(/�1 strobes in the bathrooms, smoke detectors inw the firL mechanical utility and stockroo I a heating and air conditioning system is to be installed in the building, the fans for these systems must 'be tied in to the fire alarm system to shut down the fans upon activation of the fire alarm system and smoke detectors need to be placed 'n return air ducts, so that if smoke is introduced into "HOME OF NATURAL BEAUTY. . .A GOOD PLACE TO LIVE" SETTLED 1763 the return air ducts, the smoke detectors will activate shutting down the fans as well as activating the fire alarm system. Also need a note on the plans that would state that all interior finishes would be a Class B or C rating. 12 . here should be a note on the plans that all plumbing y will cast iron or copper above and below slab. 13 . The plans show that canopies are provided over all exit doors. Also Ken has decided to install a handicap ramp.into the lower section of the arcade building. However, he does not presently know exactly what he will be using the lower level for and thus is not able to design the best location for the ramp. Therefore,he will at present label the lower section as"unused or storage" and install railing to prevent use of the lower level by the . public. When he has determined the layout for the lower level he will apply for a permit for interior alterations which will include the installation of the handicap ramp. (1) Escalators operating in the direction of exit travel, and escalators operating in the direction opposite to that of exit travel which are equipped at the head of each flight with a readily accessible device for stopping all flights simultaneously,shall be permitted as an alternative to one required means of egress in buildings not exceeding five stories in 7- height, if enclosed in conformity with the requirements of section 771.4(h) of this code. (2) Escalators shall be installed in conformity with section 1062.8 of this code. The minimum width measured between balustrading, at a vertical height of 27 inches above the nose line of the treads, shall not be less than 48 inches, which shall be considered as two units of exit width. The depth of the step tread in the direction of travel shall be not less than 15-3/4 inches, and the rise between treads shall not exceed 81/2 inches. Landings shall be provided similar to those required for stairways. (3) No continuous rise shall be more than two stories or 40 feet. // (4) The capacity of escalators used as exits shall be determined as,for exit stairways. (f) Elevators. (1) Doors in required exits shall swing outward in the direction of exit travel, except that doors from individual rooms may swing inward, provided that such rooms are not occupied by more than 50 persons, do not contain a high hazard occupancy, are not more than 1,000 square feet in area, and wherein the distance to a door does not exceed 50 feet; and as set forth in paragraph (2) of this subdivision. Horizontally sliding doors in conformity with section 5-2.1.14 of reference standard RS 54-1 (see section 1250.3 of this code), are permitted. Vertically operated doors and shutters shall not be permitted in an exit. Doors on stairways shall not have openings therein. (2) Exit doors from any floor area or occupied space shall be readily openable, shall be arranged so that they cannot be locked against exit from such area or space, and shall be equipped with self-closing and other necessary devices which will maintain them in normally closed position; or such doors may be maintained in an open position provided they are equipped with means for both manual and automatic release. For automatic release, a smoke detector shall be provided near each such opening protective on the occupied side, and release shall be actuated as set forth in section 1060.9(a) of this code. Stairway doors in high hazard buildings shall not be permitted to be maintained in an open position. (3) The exit doors to the exterior of buildings of groups C3.3, C4.3 and C5 occupancy,and exit doors from an area of public assembly and daycare centers, shall be equipped with approved fire exit bolts which release when pressure is applied to the releasing devices. Such releasing devices shall be bars or panels extending not less than one half the width of the door, shall be placed not less than 30 inches nor more than 44 inches above the floor,and shall clearly indicate the latch side or push side of the door.
