AND PICKLED TO SSPC SP8 (OR ALTERNATIVELY BLAST CLEANED TO SSPC SP5 WHITE
METAL) AND FLUXED IN AN AQUEOUS SOLUTION OF ZINC AMMONIUM.
• GALVANIZE STEEL MEMBERS, FABRICATIONS, AND ASSEMBLIES AFTER FABRICATION BY
THE HOT DIP PROCESS IN ACCORDANCE WITH ASTM A123.
• GALVANIZE BOLTS, NUTS, AND WASHERS AND IRON AND STEEL HARDWARE COMPONENTS
IN ACCORDANCE WITH ASTM A153.
• HANDLE ALL ARTICLES TO BE GALVANIZED IN SUCH MANNER AS TO AVOID ANY
MECHANICAL DAMAGE AND TO MINIMIZE DISTORTION.
• BOLTED CONNECTIONS SHALL BE DISASSEMBLED PRIOR TO GALVANIZING.
• ALL DRIPS, SPATTERS, RUNS, OVERBUILD, AND SHARP AREAS TO BE HAND -FILED
SMOOTH.

A153, AS APPROPRIATE.
• SURFACE FINISH: THE FINAL COATING SURFACE SHALL BE CONTINUOUS, REASONABLY
SMOOTH, MONOCHROMATIC IN COLOR AND AS EVENLY DISTRIBUTED AS POSSIBLE AS
PERMITTED BY THE SIZE AND SHAPE OF THE OBJECT BEING GALVANIZED. THE
GALVANIZED PRODUCT SHALL BE FREE FROM UNCOATED AREAS, BLISTERS AND OTHER
SURFACE APPEARANCE /ADHESION DEFECTS.

WITHOUT DAMAGE THE SURFACE FINISH INCLUDING PEELING OR FLAKING.
• REPAIRS TO CORRECT BARE AREAS RESULTING FROM FAULTY GALVANIZING MAY ONLY BE
DONE IF AREAS ARE INFREQUENT, SMALL, AND SUITABLE FOR REPAIR. REPAIRS SHALL
CONFORM TO ASTM A780, METHOD A3, METAUZING. THE THICKNESS OF METAUZING
SHALL EXCEED THE THICKNESS REQUIRED FOR THE ADJACENT MATERIAL. THE REPAIR
SHALL BE TESTED FOR ADHESION AND FINISH SO THAT THE APPEARANCE IS SIMILAR TO
THE ADJACENT GALVANIZING.
• REPAIR DAMAGED AREAS BY ONE OF THE APPROVED METHODS IN ACCORDANCE WITH
ASTM A780 AND THE PRODUCT MANUFACTURER'S INSTRUCTIONS. THE MINIMUM
THICKNESS REQUIREMENTS FOR THE REPAIR METHODS ARE AS FOLLOWS:
-ORGANIC ZINC RICH PAINT (E.G. COLD GALVANIZING COMPOUND)
