Per Table VI- 706 , the maximum allowable fire area for C2 Occupancy is 15 , 000 square feet for Type 2b construction . By including sprinklers throughout , the allowable area becomes 45 , 000 square feet ( 15r 000 + 200 % ) . As such we are able to build the entire 36 , 500 square foot new construction without any internal firewalls . The new construction will be separated from the Type 5 construction by 2 -hour masonry fire walls . The attached sketch of a typical wall section shows how we intend to comply with the Type 2b classification . Exterior walls , interior partitions , columns , beams , girders and trusses as well as the floor construction and stair towers are all non-combustible . Partitions enclosing corridors will be 3 / 4 hour rated while construction separating tenant spaces will have a I hour rating . We will provide a sprinkler layout drawing for review by the fire marshall as soon as it is available . I have not yet been able to discuss the need for sprinklers in the parking structure with Mr . McGrath . Although I do not find any section of the code which requires sprinklers in the parking structure , we will commit to providing sprinklers throughout the building if that is your final decision .
