Find out by trying this quick and easy "glass of water" test. Take a grass of water and splash it against some boards on your deck. If the surtax absorbs the water, making the wood noticeably darker, then the wood is vulnerable and needs the immediate protection of a waterproofer like Thompson's Water Seal. If the water beads up, or doesn't absorb into the wood the surface is protected. TREATED LUMBER OR CFDAR - Cedar is naturally resistant to insect damage. Pressure -treated lumber, with its chemical additives, is resistant to damage from termites and other wood -boring insects. Additionally, it is protected against mold, mildew and rot. QUESTIONS? Call Thompson's Help Line 800-367-6297 Deck Tip If you want a lighter shade when you are restaining your rack, first bleach the wood by applying a solution of t cup detergent, 2-3 cups of laundry bleach and t gallon of water.
