WHEREAS, New York Proposal 1, the Equal Protection of Law Amendment, is on the
ballot this November in New York as a legislatively referred constitutional amendment, and
WHEREAS, as stated in the New York State Bar Association's Kimberly Wolf price
article, titled, "What the Equal Rights Amendment Will Mean in New York":
• The New York State Constitution contains enumerated protections prohibiting
discrimination based only on race and religion. There are no such protections for gender
or other classifications;
• The timing of this Amendment could not be more critical because the State Constitution
does not adequately ensure equality;
• The New York State Constitution contains enumerated protections prohibiting
discrimination based only on race and religion. There are no such protections for gender
or other classifications; and
WHEREAS, this November's ballot measure would amend the Equal Protection Clause of
the New York Constitution to prohibit a person's rights from being denied based on the person's
"ethnicity, national origin, age, [and] disability," as well as the person's "sex, including sexual
orientation, gender identity, gender expression,pregnancy,pregnancy outcomes, and reproductive
healthcare and autonomy,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT
RESOLVED, that the Queensbury Town Board hereby urges its residents to support and
approve the foregoing Amendment this November 5 h.
