1.
The Trading Post Restaurant is located on NYS Route 9 just
south of the Warren County Municipal Center. It's sanitary
disposal system has failed and should be replaced as soon
as possible. It is supplied with Town of Queensbury water.
2.
Soil type in this area is Hinckley HnA from the Warren
County Soil Survey. This soil is 0-3 % grade, sand, gravel
& cobbles, permeability of 6-20 inches per hour, with
seasonal high groundwater below Eft. The soil at the Route
9 Cinema (also on tit. 9 with HnA soil) had a measured
percolation rate of .5 minutes per inch in the spring of
1991 With no ground water to 13ft. below the surface.
3,
On December 11, 1992 deep test hole was, -excavated to a
depth of llft, without hitting ground water. The soil was
mostly sand with about 6" of sandy top soil on the surface.
With approx. 6" of frost in the ground, normal percolation
testing could not be drone. The failed system consists of a,
1,000 gal, septic. tank and an 8ft. dia. x 10ft. deep leach
pit ---a system whi.Ch has lasted for about 30,;,.years. It is
proposed to design a new disposal system based on a 5 min.
pert rate and to install at least 2 of the leach pits shown
on the drawing at this time, with the balance installed in
the spring when weztheT is more favorable.- If required by
either the NYS Dept, of Health and/or the Town of
Queensbury, another deep test hole can be dug in the spring
of 1993 to determine high ground water level and if
additional leaching is required.
4.
Town of Queensbury Water Department records showed a water
usage of 494,00(1 f.allons for the Trading Post Restaurant
for the 12-month peiicd from October 1991 to October 1992.
This averages to 1,353 GPD for a 12-month 7days-per-week
period. The restaurant has an ice -making machine with an
Y
estimated cooling water consumption of 3GPM. If this
machine operates for a minimum of 4 hours per day, its
water usage would be approx. 263,000 GPY which leaves
231,000 GPY or 633 GPD for kitchen and sanitary use. It is
planned to pipe this clean -water discharge from the ice
machine to its own 6i:;posal system.
5.
The sanitary disposal system design is as follows:
a. Assumed percolation rate = 5 min.
b. Restaurant rearords indicate average of 45 meals daily:
1. 45 x 15 gal. = 675 GPD (5 GPD kitchen use)
2. 675 x 1.5 = 1,013 gal septic tank (use 1,250 gal)
3. Use 1,000 gal grease trap & empty every 3 months
C. 5 min pert allows 1.2 GPD/sq.ft. soil loading
1. 6ft. die, x 8ft. deep dry wells with 12"ring of
stone or c` bb?.es = 8ft. effective dia.
•
2. 8ft. dryweil ,pith 7ft. depth 'below inlet invert
results in 17F3 sq. ft. of sidewall leaching area
3. 675 GPD . 176 = 3.8 drywells req'd (use 4)
