Study the plan thoroughly. Be sure to check your local code requirements and if required obtain a building permit. 2. Stake outside perimeter of building with batter boards place at least 2 or 3 feet back from each corner. Stretch string line to show complete perimeter to outside face of wall girts. 3. Remove sod, fill,compact and grade with bulldozer or tractor scoop. The amount of site preparation depends on the use of the building. Littlesite preparation may be needed for a storage structure except to -keep runoff water away. A livestock barn or othekb ?Fng used with concrete floors requires good drainage and a good base for a concrete floor. 4. Mark pole locations with small stakes. Remove stretched string lines. 5. Dig or bore pole holes using a power auger or backhoe 4' to 5' minimum deep and a minimum 16" to 24" diameter. Dig holes wide and deep enough to install pad or casing, if required. 6. Remove water or loose material from bottom of holes. 7. Pel'a& K�V,co,%" to in bottom of hole, if required, and let cure for one day. SEfN� THE POLES 8. Select 4 straight corner poles or timbers. 9. Place poles in holes. Let poles lean toward inside of building. 10. Replace string lines and plumb the two outside edges of the corner poles with a carpenter's level. Drive 2"x4" ground stakes within the building lines. Brace poles with 2"x4" diagonals from ground stakes to upper portion of pole. (See Figure 2 and 3). Brace should be placed so that it will not interfere with the installation of the girder. Locate, center and plumb outside edge of all intermediate poles. Brace with a 2x4 ground stakes and 2°X4" brace to adjacent poles. Double headed nails holes and tamp to approximately one third can be used to fasten bracing. Measure and mark with a partly driven nail the bottom height of the 2x12 girders from the level grade mark. This height should be 11'-2 3/4" above the grade level mark. Cut a straight 2"x4" to this dimension for fast and consistant marking from the grade level nails. 15. Nail a 2"x4" girder support block on outside and inside of each pole with 6 or more 40d nai Is. 16. Cut 2x12 girders square and to exact length. Girders should butt at center line of poles except at comers. Check details on plan for lengths and nailing. 17. Place 2"x12" girder on girder support blocks and nail at pole center line. Install 2"x8" truss tie down blocks about 18" long between doubled girder at correct truss spacing (see Figure N. 19. Check alignment of poles and girders. Move temporary braces or lateral supports if realignment is needed. 20. Install diagonal wind brace and complete girder nailing. 21. Remove string line. Fill and tamp all holes. ROOF F RAM I N G 22. With the use of a crane or hoist lift trusses into position and anchor in place one at a time. Brace trusses as they are placed (the bracing helps align and hold the trusses in place while the roof is applied). Install truss lateral bracing on each diagonal truss web as shown on Truss Diagram continuously from end to end of building. Install 2"x4" cross bracing to trusses for 16 feet at each end of building. Add 2"x6" spacer blocks to side of poles on which truss is set. Fasten 2"x8" knee - bracing at each pole as shown on plan. 23. Fasten roof purlins 24" on center. Use spacers to check spacing. Roof purlins are butted over trusses. At ridge space purlins for vented gable ridge cap. 24. Install roofing starting at lower corner so side laps are away from strongest winds. Corrugated sheets should be lapped one and one half corrugations. Lap ends 6" to 9". One nail per square foot is needed, use nails that do not corrode the roofing. Nail through the tops of the corrugations. Nails should penetrate at least 1" into the purlin. 25. Remove temporary pole bracing and use for wall girts.
