OPEN FORUM
CONNI TUCKER- AS A CONCERNED CITIZEN AND A MEMBER OF THE BAY RIDGE RESQUE
SQUAD IHAVE COME HERE TO ADDRESS THIS BOARD ABOUT A MATTER OF GREAT CON-
CERN. ASMANY OF YOU KNOW THERE HAVE BEEN NUMEROUS ACCIDENTS AT THE INTER-
`j
SECTION OF BAY AND SUNNYSIDE ROADS . THE LATEST TQQK TH.E LIFE QF QNE
PERSON AND RESULTED IN INJURY TO TWO OTHERS . FOR THE LAST WEEK I HAVE
BEEN WORKING WITH THE COUNTY IN AN ATTEMPT TO ALLEVIATE PROBLEMS OF
POOR VISILITITY IN THAT AREA. TO DATE, THE COUNTY HAS TAKEN DOWN ONE
MAJOR OBSTRUCTION AND IS IN THE PROCESS OF REPAIRING THE LAND ON THE
OPPOSITE CORNER. MY MAIN PURPOSE TONIGHT IS TO REQUEST THAT THIS BOARD
PETITION THE PROPER AUTHORITIES TO IMPOSE A 35 MPH SPEED LIMIT ALONG WITH
4-WAY INTERSECTION SIGNS ON BAY ROAD NEAR THIS AREA. I FEEL THAT THIS
WILL ALSO HELP TO PREVENT FUTURE DEATHS AND/OR INJURIES DUE TO AUTO
ACCIDENTS . THIS IS ALSO A RESIDENTIAL AREA AND THE CITIZENS TO THEM. THIS
AREA HAVE A RIGHT TO PROTECTION TO THEMSELVES AS WELL AS THEIR PROPERTY.
AS A MEMBER OF THE BAY RIDGE FIRE DEPT. AND RESCUE SQUAD WE USE THIS
INTERSECTION OFTEN WHILE RESPONDING TO AN ALARM OR RESCUE SCENE . IT IS
OUR JOB TO PROTECT LIVES AND PROPERTY AND IF IN COMING HERE TONIGHT I HAVE
IN SOME SMALL WAY HELPED ACCOMPLISH THIS I FEEL I HAVE PROVIDED THE
SERVICE TO THIS COMMUNITY IT RIGHTLY DESERVES .

TOWN BOARD MEMBERS
LADIES AND GENTLEMEN;
THE BAY RIDGE RESCUE SQUAD WISHES TO MAKE SEVERAL COMMENTS ON ITEMS
OF PUBLIC SAFETY, WE HAVE BEEN DIRECTLY INVOLVED SINCE THE EARLY PART OF
1957 .
THE QUICK ACTION BY WARREN COUNTY ON REMOVAL OF ONE TREE AND THE
CUTTING BACK OF BANKS HAVE DONE MUCH TO IMPROVE SAFETY AT THE INTERSECTION
OF BAY AND SUNNYSIDE ROADS; THOSE WHO MADE THESE IMPROVEMENTS SHOULD BE
COMMENDED. THE MEMBERS OF THE RESCUE SQUAD WHO HAVE TO CROSS THESE
LOCATIONS HAVE ALREADY FELT A LITTLE RELIEF. WE COULD ONLY WISH THAT
THE ENTRY POINT TO BAY ROAD FROM SUNNYSIDE WAS ON A LESS INCLINE .
THE MEMBERS OF BAY RIDGE FIRE DEPT. AND RESCUE SQUAD WOULD LIKE
TO SEE A REDUCED SPEED AREA SIGN NEAR THE INTERSECTION FOR THIS IN ITS
SELF WOULD GIVE ANYONE MORE TIME TO ENTER OR CROSS THE INTERSECTION.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME AND WE HOPE THAT WE SHOULD NOT HAVE TO
RESPOND TO BAY AND SUNNYSIDE FOR A LONG TIME .
SINCERELY YOURS,
RALPH CHAMBERS PRESIDENT
BAY RIDGE RESCUE SQUAD
/S/
SUPERVISOR WALTER- I HAVE TALKED WITH MR. GEALT AND THE POLICE CHIEF
WE WILL LOOK INTO A REDUCED SPEED LIMIT AND OR SIGNS ALONG THE ROAD. . .
UNKNOWN - IS THERE ANY WAY TO HAVE A BLINKING LIGHT AT THAT INTERSECTION?
SUPERVISOR WALTER- I WILL SPEAK TO MR. AUSTIN ABOUT THAT. . .
COUNCILMAN MORRELL-ARE WE REALLY THAT TIED WITH OUR HANDS ON PROBLEMS
OF THIS NATURE ON THE ROADS BECAUSE OF THE DEPT. OF TRANSPORTATION?
COUNCILMAN ROBERTSON-YES
COUNCILMAN MORRELL- I HAVE SEEN THIS FOR THE LAST FIVE TO SIX YEARS,
AND NOW SITTING HERE IN THIS POSITION AND FINDING OUT THAT IT IS
A REALITY. I WISH THAT THIS INFORMATION WAS KNOWN TO THE PEOPLE
THAT IT IS THE N. Y. ST. DEPT. OF TRANSPORTATION WHO HAS NO AWARENESS
OF THE LOCAL NEEDS OF THE VARIOUS TOWNS TO THE VARIOUS TRAFFIC PROBLEMS .
THAT SIT THERE IN JUDGEMENT AND DECIDE YES OR NO AFTER AN EIGHTEEN MONTH
PERIOD OF PUTTING OUT WIRES ACROSS THE ROAD SO THAT CARS CAN BE COUNTED
TO DECIDE WHETHER THERE IS GOING TO BE A PROBLEM. IS THERE ANYWAY
WE CAN RELATE TO THE DEPT. OF TRANSPORTATION, TO GET BACK TO HOME RULE WHERE
LOCAL COMMUNITIES KNOW THE PROBLEMS OF CERTAIN AREAS . . .
SUPERVISOR WALTER- WE CAN HAVE PERSONNEL CONTACT WITH REPRESENTATIVES
OF DOT. IT IS NOT IN THEIR PURVIEW TO CHANGE !Wt'AT THE LEGISLATURE
HAS PUT INTO STATE LAW. . .
COUNCILMAN MORRELL- WHEN WAS THIS TAKEN AWAY FROM THE TOWNS?
COUNCILMAN ROBERTSON- IT HAS BEEN GONE FOR A LONG TIME . . .
I
COUNCILMAN MORRELL- THIS IS NOT REALISTIC . . .
COUNCILMAN ROBERTSON- IT IS NOT IN A LOT OF CASES BUT THERE ARE A LOT
OF CASES WHERE THERE WERE A LOT OF ABUSES THE OTHER WAY IT GOT OUT OF
HAND. . . REVIEWED THE HISTORY OF THE LOWERING OF THE SPEED LIMIT ON
COUNTRY CLUB RD.
COUNCILMAN OLSON- SPOKE ON HOW FAST QO,T HELPED THE TOWN WITH A PROBLEM
ON AVIATION ROAD. . .
MR. PICKETT- ASKED IF THE TOWN BOARD HEARD ANYTHING ABOUT DIRECTIONAL
SIGN BEING PLACED AT THE ROUTE 9 INTERSECTION . . . NOTED THE DANGER. . . #
r
SUPERVISOR WALTER- I HAVE NOT HEARD BACK. . .
MR. PICKETT- IS THERE ANYTHING WE CAN DO?
SUPERVISOR WALTER- SUGGESTED WRITING TO MR . KELLY OR MR. CARLSON. . .
OF D.O.T. I WILL ALSO TAKE THIS UP WITH THE COUNTY TRAFFIC SAFETY
BOARD. . . .
COUNCILMAN MORRELL- SPOKE ON THE POWER THAT PETITIONS CAN HAVE IN
EFFECTING CHANGES . . .NOTED THE AVIATION ROAD SITUATION. . .
JOSEPH DAIRE-S0. QSBY. - REQUESTED A LIGHT AT DIX AND QUEENSBURY AVENUE
AND ALSO DIRECTIONAL LIGHTS AT QUAKER AND DIX AVENUE . . .
UNKNOWN- ASKED IF THE STATE MUST GET INVOLVED TO PLACE A LIGHT AT
SUNNYSIDE AND BAY . . . . SUGGESTED THAT THE SUNNYSIDE ROAD BE RE-GRADED
SO THAT AT LEAST TWO CARS COULD SET AT THE TOP OF THE INTERSECTION . . .
MR. GEALT- REGARDING THE TRAFFIC SIGNALS . . .THE REGULATION OF TRAFFIC
AT INTERSECTIONS BY TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICES IS DONE BY LOCAL AUTHORITIES
UNLESS THERE IS A STATE ROAD INVOLVED. FLASHING LIGHTS AT BAY AND
SUNNYSIDE COULD BE INSTALLED BY THE COUNTY OR BY THE TOWN, THREE COLOR
TRAFFIC SIGNALS COULD ONLY BE INSTALLED BY THE TOWN . . .
MRS . TUCKER- NOTED THAT SHE FELT THAT BAY RIDGE HAS MORE ACCIDENTS
THAT INVOLVE GOING IN THE DIRECTION OF BAY THEN RIDGE. . . SUPPORTED
THE IDEA OF TRAFFIC SIGNALS . . .
UNKNOWN- QUESTI-ONED WHY THE FILE CABINETS WERE NOT BEING PURCHASED
FROM THE STATE SURPLUS CENTER. . . .
SUPERVISOR WALTER- WE HAVE TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF THE STATE SURPLUS CENTER . . .
NOTED THAT THE FILE CABINETS WERE BEING MATCHED TO THOSE THAT ARE PRESENTLY
BEING USED. . . THEY WILL NOT BE USED IN THE STORAGE ROOM. . .
ASKED FOR FURTHER INPUT . . . . OPENED FORM CLOSED. . .

DEAR DAN,
AM UNABLE TO ATTEND TONIGHTIS MEETING BUT WOULD LIKE TO AIR
MY OPINION.
?gr
"I AM ABSOLUTELY OPPOSED TO ANY RAISE IN COLONIAL CABLE RATES .
WHEN CABLE WAS INSTALLED IN OUR HOME IT WAS IMPROPERLY GROUNDED.
ELECTRICAL STORMS KAYOED OUR SET 2-3 MAYBE FOUR TIMES AND IT COST
$25 . UP EVERY TIME FOR T.V. SERVICE .
THE LAST TIME THIS OCCURED WE LOST THE COLOR.
I COMPLAINED TO COLONIAL, THEY SENT A SERVICEMAN WHO PROPERLY
GROUNDED OUR SET (OR SO HE SAID. )
I THOUGHT COLONIAL SHOULD PAY FOR OUR T.V. SERVICE CALLS .
THE GUY IN CHARGE - I DID SAY GUY-DIDN'T FACE ME-BUT PASSED THE
BUCK TO THE GIRL AT THE COUNTER TO TELL ME NO.
SINCE WE' RE IN THE AREA DAILY WE LIKE TO PAY CASH. HAVE
YOU EVER DRIVEN OVER THE ALPS TO THEIR OFFICE .
WE DESERVE A CUT IN THE REATES- NOT A RAISE FOR THEM.

SUBJECT: COLONIAL CABLE T.V. RATE HEARING
DEAR MRS . WALTERS AND MEMBERS OF THE TOWN BOARD,
I WISH TO REGISTER A FORMAL COMPLAINT AGAINST COLONIAL CABLEVISION
AS I HAD DONE IN WRITING TO YOUR OFFICE SOME 11 MONTHS AGO. I AM NOT
OPPOSED TO A RATE INCREASE AS I CAN CERTAINLY RELATE TO COSTS OF OPERATING
ONES BUSINESS BEING ON THE RISE IN TODAYS ECONOMY. MY COMPLAINT IS
THAT THIS RATE INCREASE MAY BE NECESSITATED BY POOR MANAGEMENT AND POOR 3
ORGANIZATIONAL DIRECTION.
I WROTE MY FIRST LETTER LAST YEAR COLONIAL PROMISED ZENAS DRIVE
RESIDENTS THEY WOULD HAVE CABLE T.V. IN THE SPRING AS THEY CAN ' T BURY
CABLE LINES IN THE FALL, DUE TO FROZEN GROUND. THIS WAS THE SAME DAY
N. Y. TELEPHONE BURIED THERE LINES IN FRONT OF MY HOUSE .
ALL SUMMER LONG ONCE A MONTH I AS WELL AS MANY OTHER RESIDENTS KEPT
CALLING AND WERE ADVISED VARIOUS EXCUSES SUCH AS NOT ENOUGH HELP; YOUR
ON THE LIST; NO UNDERGROUND CABLE IN STOCK, THEN FINALLY LAST AUGUST
THEY JUST SAID NOT THIS YEAR, MAYBE NEXT SUMMER.
I AM REQUESTING THE TOWN BOARD DISAPPROVE ANY RATE HIKE UNTIL THIS
ORGANIZATION CAN PRODUCE SOME SORT OF VALID COMMITTMENT TO INSTALL CABLE
IN NEW AREAS AND MAINTAIN THESE SCHEDULES, LIKE A BUSINESS SHOULD BE RUN.
THE STATE CABLE COMMISSION ADVISED MY OWNLY RECOURSE IN THROUGH MY LOCAL
TOWN BOARD. THANKING YOU FOR YOUR TIME AND CONSIDERATION IN THIS MATTER.
RESPECTFULLY SUBMITTED,
/S/
CONALD J . OGLE
TOWN CLERK DON CHASE- TOLD MR . NOLAN THAT A RESIDENT OF MORGAN DRIVE
HAD COMPLAINED TO HIM THAT HIS NEIGHBOR HAD CABLE T.V. BUT HAD LEFT
HIS CABLE ON TOP OF THE GROUND. . .HARD TO MOW. . . IS THERE ANYTHING IN
THE FRANCHISE - TO STATE THAT THE CABLE T.V. COMPANY SHOULD COVER THE
WIRE?
MR. NOLAN-NO . . . IT ISJUST . G00D ENGINEERING PRACTICE . . .
SUPERVISOR WALTER- IF THERE ARE NO FURTHER COMMENTS . . . THE HEARING IS CLOSED.
