02-04-2014 Queensbury Parks and Recreation Commission Queensbury, NY 12804 Minutes of the February 4, 2014 regular meeting of the Recreation Commission of the Town of Queensbury held at the Town of Queensbury Supervisor's Conference Room Chairman Matthews called the meeting to order at 7:05pm Roll Call: • Present—Wendy Matthews, Judy Goralski, Lisa White, Greg Hewlett, Todd Eicher • Excused —Jennifer Switzer, Lloyd Mott • Staff— Steve Lovering 2.) Approval of Minutes: Commissioner Hewlett motioned to approve the January 7, 2014 minutes, seconded by Commissioner Eicher; all members approved 3.) Communications and Remarks from Visitors: (see file for copies) a.) Monthly Correspondence: • Coles Woods article and letter to the editor in The Post Star regarding the usage of the groomed cross country ski trails by snowshoes enthusiasts, walkers with and without dogs in the winter months • Rush Pond discussion about usage in the future. Currently Rush Pond is a multiuse facility that is open to dogs in control (owners are asked to clean up after their dogs) and currently there is not a pristine area of groomed trails for cross country skiers. b.) Budget Control —discussion c.) Employee Rooster 4.) Unfinished Business a) Gurney Lane Pool: During a preconstruction meeting foreman from Paterson and Steves (contractor) believes that they may be able to save the existing concrete when replacing the gutter. If this can be done it will save some expense on the project. Depending upon the weather they are looking to start mid to late March. 5.) New Business a) 2014 Park Projects (see files copies): discussion of projects that Director Lovering is recommending to complete during 2014 for the following parks; Gurney Lane (addition to the construction project), Jenkinnville, Hovey Pond, Hudson River, Glen Lake Boat Launch and Freedom Park. • Director Lovering also outlined short term project considerations for 2015 for the following parks; Meadowbrooke Brook Preserve, Hudson Pointe Preserve and Rush Pond Way, Gurney lane , Hovey Pond and Jenksinville. There was a discussion about these projects as well. b) Discussed different ways to market all the Queensbury parks to local residents and visitors. • There is a mountain bike group may be interested in having an event at Gurney Lane. • Discussed ways to make the website more searchable. 6.) Additional Information and Reports (see file for copies) • Parks Report: An overview of the activities available at the Town of Queensbury parks. • Annual Revenue Totals: An overview of the income from activities available through the Town of Queensbury Parks programs from 1997- 2013. • Yearly Scholarships Totals: An overview of the scholarships granted from 2006-2014 programs • Summary of open Capital Project accounts as of 1/31/14 • 2013 Utility Costs: also included a comparison to previous year. Adjournment—A motion was made by Commissioner White, seconded by Commissioner Hewlett to adjourn at 8:10. All members present approved.
