083.2015 Support Greater Glens Falls Transit RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF GREATER GLENS FALLS TRANSIT

WHO MOVED ITS ADOPTION

WHEREAS, the Town of Queensbury has provided financial support to and maintained a
service agreement with Greater Glens Falls Transit (GGFT) for more than 30 years to provide
quality public transit services to its residents and businesses, and
WHEREAS, throughout that time GGFT has consistently delivered safe, high quality, and
economical services to the Town of Queensbury, and
WHEREAS, based on the most current published National Transit Database statistics,
GGFT is among the most cost efficient public transit operators in New York State, and
WHEREAS, the proposed New York Executive budget does not include any increase in
State Transit Operating Assistance (STOA) for upstate formula based public transit operators like
GGFT, and
WHEREAS, since 2009 GGFT has effectively seen a decline of over -9% in the amount of
financial support that it receives from the STOA program, despite increases in ridership and miles
of service operated, and
WHEREAS, public transit service is a valued and beneficial service to the Town of
Queensbury and its residents,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT
RESOLVED, that the Queensbury Town Board hereby supports an increase in the
appropriated NYS Transit Operating Assistance for formula bus systems in New York State, and
BE IT FURTHER,
RESOLVED, that the Town Board authorizes and directs the Town Supervisor to send a
certified copy of this Resolution to the Greater Glens Falls Transit (GGFT) and take such other and
further action as may be necessary to effectuate the terms of this Resolution.
