Members of the Planning Board
In May of 20,14, we requested and were rarnted from the flown a Speciall Use permit to operate a Ibottle
and can redemption center and a secure document destruction facility in our warehouse at 436 quaker
Road in the town.
The (permit' as issued for a period of two years in,order for ups to,develop the infrastructure needed to,
operate and to train the individuals needed to work in the pro rare .'We were instructed to provide the
Planning Board with an update on our progress after two'years, at which time a renewal of our permit
would be considered. We have delayed they development of the document dlestru onion program dlue to
the loan current value of paper. IFHo,,uwever ouar'hottllue redemption centerhas opened.
I am pleased to report to,you that the project has been,a great success and that we hope to continue
the prograrn'n arnd providle employment and trail ning opportunities for the Ind1viduaaIs we,serve
iund!efinitely, In addition to our ori lrna,l application materials and our current permit, I've attath ed two
photos of ouur completed facility which we have nairn-ned 'Gone ForGood".
Followrwirng the permit approvall, we began construction of the packaging and sorting area within our
warehouse., Fencing,was erected and a dligitsal container counter was rrafted to allow automatic
container counting as the containers pass through a hole in the sorting table This enables individuals
with rno ne or poor math skills to be employed..
Our staff began reaching out to businesses in the town for arragemernts to recycle their containers.
Cooperative agreements have been made with Lowes, Midlas,Greer,Acre Farmis and Meineke Muffler
with addlitionall firms joining all the time.At this time three individuals with developmental cits,afailities
are employed,and though our agency operates the redernptien center at a loss,,our primary motivation
was and remains to,provide employment opportunity.

Enclosed please find our Site Plan and Special Use Permit application for our affirmative business
venture at ourwarehovse fa6i'ity in Queensbury.
`hen we acquired the blinding at 436Quaker Road in 2012,we intended to benefit frcnrn7 owning our
own building and saw the potential not only for improved)office space, but the potential in the rear
warehouse,area for expanding services to those we serve with special needs. We have completed the
renovations needed to create usable office space for our adminlstratNIe'team in the front section, of the
building and now wish to pa:rtiaily develop the warehouse space to provide Jobs and training
opportunities.
To this end we have investigated two affirmative business opportunities; a bottle andcan redemption
center and a ,secure document destructl n facility. Bath opportunities would require construction and
development only w [thin the confines of our warehouse, No changes to lighting, landscaping, parking or
signage are required or regoestued.
The bottleand can redemption center required a permit from DEC which we have obtained. No real
construction is required except for the building of a sorting table for separating the donated or returned
bottles arnd cans intra their respective,groups,The,actual recycling ar�d transportation WOUldl be dune by
an off-I site third ,party,We hope to provide training and employrnrep opportunities to,three f four
individuals.
Trhe secure document destruction program, its an opportunity w. e discovered when ] attended an
orientation last year to the Presidential Commission for the blind an d,.Sour'ceArneriica,the national non-
profit operated by the-,government to advocate for employment epppa nit,ies for persons with
disabilities.
