Serving the Capital District, Saratoga and Adirondack Regions December 5,2016 7 Rocky Ridge, Warrensburg,NY 12885 Roberts Builders Inc 633A and 633B Bay Road Queensbury,NY 12804 RE: Blower Door Test for NYS Building Code, Town of Queensbury Mr. William Roberts: After inspection of the Salon and Gallery at 633A& B Bay Rd, Queensbury,New York and completion of a Blower Door Test in each consistent with the practice of depressurization to 50 Pascal in a winter condition with the exterior windows and doors shut and the interior doors to all the rooms open, my observations are as follows: 4* Both locations tested pass the current New York State Building Code for Air Changes per Hour @ 50 Pascal of less than or equal to 7 ACH/50. The tested numbers are 6.88 & 6.48 ACW50 respectively for the Salon and the Gallery. ❖ The total heated volumes of the Salon&Gallery are 13860 &27600 cubic feet taking into consideration all conditioned space on each floor. The cubic feet per minute @ 50 Pascal were 231 &460 CFM/50. The height correction factor for New York State -is 1-9 for a one story building;as such the tested businesses @ 633A&B,have-the natural rate of air exchanges of 0.36 and 0.34 air changes per hour/natural. ❖ Average homes built prior to the new code requirements typically had air exchange rates from 0.35 to 1.0 ACH. Extremely tight new construction can achieve air change rates of 0.35ACH or less. Homes with air change rates below 0.20 ACH,would require some form of mechanical ventilation to bring in fresh outside air for the occupants and to control humidity. Since the blower door test indicates that currently each location has an air exchange rate of 0.36 & 0.34 air changes per hour natural, mechanical ventilation is not required.
