Dear Mr. Moore,
At your request and in general accordance with our scope of services emailed to you on
September 24, 2013, this representative of Dente Engineering was at your referenced project
site on October 14,2013 to observe foundation bearing grade soils and perform Swiss Rebound
Hammer Testing of foundation concrete. Our scope of services was reviewed and reported
suitable to satisfy code requirements by Dave Hatin, Director of Building and Code
Enforcement, town of Queensbury, in his email correspondence dated September 30, 2013.
The following summarizes my observations and results of the testing.
Foundation Bearing Grades
The soil bearing pressure used in the design of the foundations was reported by your architect,
Curt Dybas, to be 1,500 psf.
Upon arrival to the project site this representative met with Tom Albrecht, Jr. of Hilltop
Construction and a representative of the excavation contractor, Ellsworth and Son Excavating.
It was observed that the contractor was in the process of excavating granular backfill soils
adjacent the east side of the column footing located between the drive thru lanes. The
contractor continued excavations until reaching the bottom of the column foundation. It was
observed that the bearing grade soils consisted of fine to coarse grained sand with lesser
amounts of gravel.
This representative used a pointed steel rod to probe the foundation bearing grades adjacent
to the footing. The grades were observed to be firm and stable under hand pressure where
probed. Based on the conditions observed, the foundation bearing grade soils are judged to
meet or exceed the design bearing pressure of 1,500 psf.

Swiss Rebound Hammer Testing
Following observation of the foundation bearing grade soils, this representative performed
Swiss Rebound Hammer Testing of the foundation and pier concrete. The testing was
performed using a CT-320A model, ELE International,Swiss Rebound Hammer,serial number
G98863. It was reported by Mr. Albrecht that the concrete was placed during the last week of
June, 2013, was supplied by Bonded Concrete, and had a design compressive strength of
3,000 psi.
This representative performed the testing in general accordance with the procedures listed in
the manufacturer's operations manual. The testing was performed on the vertical face of the
footing and pier with an average rebound values of 31.5 and 33.5, respectively.
The results of the testing were plotted on the attached chart using an a angle of 0 degrees. The
rebound values obtained correspond to a compressive strength ranging between about 3,650
and 4,150 psi. Based on the results of the testing,the concrete compressive strength exceeds
the reported design strength of 3,000 psi.
Closure
In summary,the results of our observations and testing performed on October 14,2013 indicate
that the foundation bearing grade soils meet or exceed the design bearing pressure of 1,500
psf and the compressive strength of the foundation concrete exceeds the reported design
compressive strength of 3,000 psi.
