The Clerk read the following letter from the Adirondack Artisans : P. O. Box 582 Glens Falls , New York 12801 March 4, 1974 Mr. Austin, town supervisor Town of Queensbury Bay Road Glens Falls, New York Dear Mr. Austin: I noted in the Post Star that you have been called upon to voice an opinion on arts funding. May I offer facts regarding my own affilia- tion with the crafts community so that you may be prepared. It is obvious that the challenger is not aware of the dedication to this community of the various cultural organizations when he states that the benefactors are few. In particular, the Lower Adirondack Regional Arts Council and Adirondack Artisans are now working towards an Artist-in-Residence program which would touch the lives of every school age child in hosting schools . We are working on the accepted and recommended principal that self-expression is as important to a health individual as mastering the mechanics of the three R' s . Not only will these craftspeople bring to the schools and scores of interested persons at public occaskions a pride in the heritage and natural materials of our area; the program will be a first in the entire United States thus making us a model for the country. I cannot advise as to the amount of money other organizations such as the Lake George Opera bring into the Lake George Opera bring into the area; or the thousands of people who directly or otherwise participate in, are employed by, or enjoy art shows , performances , exhibits, open houses, or art facilities; or the distinction of claming for our own such nationally famous institutions as the Hyde Museum. I hope you will consider all of these factors and speak out publicly for arts funding and the justifiable amount sought -- for the betterment of the entire community. 62 Sincerely, /s/ Rosanne Burger, director Adirondack Artisans CC: Sonny Buchman, LARAC -The Water Superintendent requested that the Board allow five members of the water dept. to attend the annual spring meeting of the Adirondack Water Works Conference.
