RE: Solar Panel Project—McMahon Project 2 Mohawk Tr, Queensbury, NY 12804 Dear Mr. Reynolds, I have completed the structural adequacy review for the above referenced project. I determined whether the existing rafters/roof support structure would adequately support the additional proposed solar system dead load in regards to flexure and deflection,as well as determined the required minimum resistance against anticipated wind uplift and shear loading for the roof mounting systems. According to the Site Visit Form provided for said project, the building of the roof structure proposed to receive the additional solar system dead load is a single family residence. The roof configuration, proposed panels and mounting systems are as follows: TOWN OF QUEENSBURY BUILDING DERA:RTMENT • Roof Plane 1 (RPI) Bthoouron our conmentstlhal n° a!ion, compliance ndicatin. t be construed as o Roof Structural System 9 he Glans and secificafions are in full complianc h • 2x4 trusses spaced 24"on center, No. 2 SouthevO,4119jf A ohe=n9 Codes of • Decked with 5/8" plywood and a single layer of asphalt shingles o Proposed PV Modules and Mounting System - • Trinamount Modules(or equivalent) - • Iron Ridge Roof Mount System (or equivalen OWN OF QUEENSBURY BUILDING & COQES D Reviewed y: T' Date: i A summary of my review follows: I determined the existing structural system dead loads and the additional dead load resulting from the proposed solar system. The controlling roof live load is snow loading and has been determined according to the requirements set forth in ASCE 7-05. The roof system was then checked against allowable flexural stresses and deflection limits for adequacy. Wind loads were also determined according to the procedures of ASCE 7-05. The resulting wind uplift and shear forces are included in the design calculations and may be used to determine the appropriate roof mounting hardware. 64 Main Street, Queensbury. From my professional examination of this specific address, I determined that the existing roof system RPI is adequate in regards to bending strength and deflection criteria to support the additional dead load of the proposed solar system in its current configuration. Please note that my review is of the rafter members only and is based solely on the information recorded in the Site Visit Form and correspondence with you. This review verifies that the information provided in the Site Visit Form is accurately portrayed and the building is otherwise in good structural condition and capable to resist the increased loading resulting from the proposed solar system. When selecting the roof mounting hardware, be certain to provide a watertight seal around all roof penetrations and in such a manner that normal roof drainage patterns are not impaired by the proposed solar system. While consideration was given to snow drifting, it is highly recommended that the project owner not allow excessive snow and/or ice buildup on the roof, as with any roof. Sincerely, Christopher W.
