Dear Mr. Bardin:
RE: Aquatic Resource Delineation at Woodchuck Hill Road
Upon review of your proposed home construction project, the Town of Queensbury
requested field verification of the wetland boundary indicated by an APA GIS layer shown
on your Site Plan. As a wetland biologist with more than 10 years of experience, I
visited the site on 20 April 2018 to conduct the requested aquatic resource delineation.
The Area of Investigation (AOI) was determined by delineating all aquatic resources
within 100 feet of the Limits of Disturbance (LOD) shown on the Site Plan (Attachment
1).
Methods: Prior to visiting the site, available topographic, aerial, soils, flood, National
Wetlands Inventory (NWI), and APA wetland mapping was reviewed to determine onsite
areas that may contain aquatic resources. Wetland delineation procedures follow the
2012 Regional Supplement to the Corps of Engineers Wetland Delineation Manual:
Northcentral and Northeast Region, Version 2.0, the 1987 Corps of Engineers Wetland
Delineation Manual, and the NYS Freshwater Wetlands Delineation Manual. Flags are
tied along wetland boundaries, and at data collection sites. Delineated aquatic resources
are classified according to the Classification of Wetland and Deepwater Habitats of the
United States (Cowardin et al. 1979).
Results: The site is on the Lake George USGS 7.5-minute topographic quadrangle. The
AOI is sloped from -550 feet down to -400 feet. The site drains to an unnamed tributary
of Lake George. The Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) maps Bice very
bouldery fine sandy loam, (BdC and BdE), and Massena fine sandy loam (MsA) within
the AOI. These soils have hydric components. Soil mapping is provided on the Site Plan.
The NWI (Attachment 2) maps a forested/scrub-shrub wetland at the lowest portion of the
site. Aerial photography from 2004-2016 indicate the site is dominated by mature forest;
the wetland is visible on aerials.
One wetland with palustrine forested (PFO) and emergent (PEM) components was
delineated within the AOI. The wetland/upland boundary was easily determined via an
evident topographic break, although some seeps were delineated uphill from the break.
Data was collected at one wetland, and one upland sample point; both nearest the LOD.
The wetland portion nearest the LOD is PEM. No streams were evident within the limited
AOI. Flags placed along the wetland boundary were mapped using conventional survey,
