Webster, Supervisor Gentlemen: In this report I will try to briefly outline the projects and accomplishmentsoof the Water Department for the past year. PLANT. The office area at the treatment plant was enclosed and painted. As the districts under the charge of the department increase in number and size, so do the problems of maintenance and parts stockpiling. The time is soon approaching when we should consider a maintance and storage building. DEVELOPMENTS. During the year there was 15,445+- feet of 6 inch CL cast iron water m.in irasfis111p 'her rPc+P or!r. AV , eM 9 cast iron pipe. Along with this developers installed 15 fire hydrants with valves and 20 line valves. All these were installed under the supervision of the Water Department, NEW CONSTRUCTION. The Water Department under its own forces installed 150+- feet of 6 inch main and 300 +- feet of 8 inch main. There were two fire hydrants relocated. There were 47 curb boxes located and repaired, 8 fire hydrants repaired, cleaned and lined 2377+- feet of 6 inch main. Under this heading there is the routine maintenance work preformed daily and of which no reports are kept. ENGINEERING. Preliminary engineering studies have been made for a additional source of supply, for the installation of water softening, and the conversion to gas chlorination, Also considerable work has been done on the West Mountain - West Glens Falls project and the South Queensbury project. These projects take in approximately 30 miles of main of various sizes and two storage tanks. MISCELLANEOUS. We added one radio equipped truck to the department. In June the No. 1 pump was pulled and repairs made. We survived the repairs to the pump and the power failure by using our auxilary well and pump. CONTRACTS. Contract No. 6, The Bay Road Water District is just about complete with the exception of clean up work. Contract No. 7 is well along. The pipe has been installed and we are now waiting for delivery of the pump in order that this installation can be made and the electrical work can be finished. CONSUMPTION During the year we produced and treated 160,208,475 gallons of water. This represents a daily average of 438,927 gallon. We consumed 7;5 ton of polyphosphate and 2700 gallon of chlorine. WATER TAPS. There were 76 water taps made in the districts. 74 in Queensbury and 2 in West Glens Falls. There are also 74 taps that were made under Contract No. 6. CONCLUSION. I would like to say in closing that my first year as Superintendent of the Queensbury Water Department has presented me with a challenge which I have enjoyed. And I look forward to the coming year. As the size of the department and of the districts under its charge increase so do the responsibilities of the 310 Superintendent. I will try to meet these responsibilities to the best of my ability. At this time I would like to thank the members of the Town Board, Supervisor Webster and the members of the other Town Departments for the cooperation which I and the members of my department have received during the past year. Gentlemen it has been a pleasure. Respectfully submitted, - Thomas K. Flaherty Superintendent. A letter was received and placed on file from Joseph A. Kestner, Jr. , Engineer for the Bay Road Water District. The nature of the communication had to do with the manner in which hydrants were installed in Bay Road Water District.
