The clerk read a request for purchase of a new typewriter to be
used in the Town Clerks Office

With the fact in- mind that..the . town clerk's office doesnot have
a_ltypewriter as a result of haying.lsurrendered the Royal mechanical
typewriter for the use of the Water Superintendent of the Queensbury
Water District. I would recommend the purchase of one 17" IBM
Electric typewriter at a delivered price of $441.00. The decision
to purchase the IBM typewriter results from having tried out a
total' of.' three different makes ' of' comparative machines. Ir

Mr. Coon was granted the floor. The nature of the question has
to do with abandonment of a road which would enable the City of
Glens Falls to be given aright of way to the water shed property.
Mr. Coon, stated. that any approval of the change would damage -
property owned by him. So definite objection. was voiced: by Mr.Coon.

Gentlemen:
For several weeks now I have been assigned to a
location in Mississippi at the NASA Miss, Test Facility` in
connection with the G.E. 's Miss. Test Support Operation, Due_ to .
the uncertainty of the status & duration of this relocation I
have delayed my resignation from the Town Board. There still
remains some Question of duration.�but in fairness to the Town and
the Board, I feel that I should resign to allow appointment of
a councilman who can take an active part.

I have enjoyed my work on the Board for the past
ten years and sincerely believe that we have accomplished some
worthwhile objectives in that period. The future of the town
looks bright indeed and I shall follow with great interest the
progress of our pending projects and the work of our various
departments, especially the HIGHWAY, FIRE COMPANIES, & WATER
committees that I was priveleged to- serve on as chairman.
This resignation may become effective not later than
3. 1. 64 or, at the Board's convenience. I am grateful for
_ having had the opportunity to work with you and serve the people
of the Town of Queensbury. I do not intend to close my home here
and will return at the earliest possible date, at which time I
hope again to be given the opportunity to take an active part in
local government

The following letter of appreciation of years of service was
presented by Supervisor Webster.
As Executive Officer of the town, I want to express the
profound regret of our town .government in *the relaigna.tion of
Councilman, Harold C. Akins, as a result of his transfer
by his employer, General Electric Company, to Mississippi.
While we had already been advised that this resignation was 1
a possibility,, ,just the same it comes as a shock at this time.
Harold Akins has been a most valuable member of this -board
since 1954. During this 10 year period, a time of unprecedented
growth and development in our town, he has contributed greatly
in almost- every ,phase of our town government. . He has been
chairman of several of our most important town .board committees ,
and his judgement and decisions have always been made in the
best interest of the town. Needless to say, we will all
miss him very much.
I know I speak for the board when I say we wish him well in his j
new duties with General .-Electric, and we also hope that
developments may occur whereby he may once again return to
his home here in Queensbury and can once again participate

in our government and in community affairs.

A map was presented by Mr. Codner for study to do with the pathway
of a change in the town highway on Gurney Lane.
The Supervisor presented his annual report for filing by the clerk.
A map was presented for discussion to do with a portion of land
which the Cale Development Company is seeking to purchase from
the PineView Cemetery property. Decision on the matter -will be - .
made following a discussion with the Cemetery Commission.
Mr. H. Russell Harris verbally expressed the fact that he would
accept the appointment as Councilman in the Town of Queensbury.
Mr. Podner presented his recommendations for special improvements
for the year 1964.

The Town Superintendent of Highways recommended that the advertisement
for bids to purchase a new k ton pick-up truck to replace the 1959
Studebaker truck which will be in need of repair at an early date.
Action was deferred to a, later meeting.
The minutes of the- meeting of February 20, 1964 were approved
by the board. '
RESOLUTION NO. 44 Introduced� by Mr. Beaty, seconded by Mr. Turner.
WHEREAS, it is provided by Section 243 of the General Municipal Law
that a Town Board may establish a Recreation Commission to consist
of not less than five or more than seven-membe'rs to serve without
pay, and
WHEREAS, they appears to be considerable interest in the development
of a recreational program in the 'Town of' Queensbury, be It
RESOLVED that there be and hereby is established in the Town of
Queensbury a Recreation Commission of seven members to serve '
without pay and to have powers and duties prescribed by the
General Municipal Law, and be it further
RESOLVED that the following nerved persons, all residents of the
the Town of Queensbury, be and they hereby are' appointed members
of the Recreation Commission of the Town of Queensbury for .the
term set opposite eaeh name:

Mr. Joseph A. Kestner, Jr. , and Mr. Orman Holden the engineers for i
the Queensbury Water District visited the meeting at this time.
Mr. Kestner reported, on the meeting which was held earlier in the
evening on the date of his visit with the board. ' The meeting was
arranged by the State of New York Department of Water Resources.
Mr. Kestner discussed at length the condition of the water being
delivered in the Queensbury Water District system.
On motion the meeting was adjourned.
