Russell Harris , Supervisor ` Town. of Queensbury Star Route Glens Falls., N.Y. Dear S 'r . Enclosed is a self-explanatory rider to our permit dated August -a 17" 5 ;, nthorizing the Town of Queensbury, Warren County,. to .install and operate a fire signal on Route-f-1 at its intersection with County Road. 54 at Oneida Corners r We have been advised that this signal has been installed and is now operating as a flashing signal in accordance with the conditions of the permit. The installation' of the switch to provide the emergency operation is, according to our information, delayed pending -the com- pletion of the new fire house. We will appreciate being advised t,Then this switch has been instal:len Also under date of August 17,: 1953,, we issued a permit to the Town tp install and operate a fire signal (Signal 12-F) on Route 9-L at the intersection with Cleverdale Road . This„permit_specifies.._a 4-face head which durin- *normal operatiog shall display flashing amber indica- tions east and west on` Route 9-L and flashing red indications facing north. on Cleverdale Road and south facing the fire house. R A recent inspection reveals that this signal was installed as a 3--face head rather than a 4-face head . In addition, flashing amber in dications are displayed facing east on Route 9-L and north on Cleverdale Road with the west face not in operation.. We have been advisdd that las September you were contacted andinformed that the 3--face head dial not conform to the permit.- The purpose of the. fourth or south face is to inform the drivers of the . fire equipment by the green indication that the emergency oper- ation provided for in the permit is in effect.. However, , we- have no ob.. jections to the omission of this face, but we believe that the drivers should be given this information either by the fourth face or by a pilot light in the fire house: which would be illuminated during the period the emergency operation is in effect. Y . We will be glad to amend our permit to omit the smith face and to provide for the pilot light in the fire house, if you so desire. Other.» wine,, the installation should consist of a 4-face head 'in accordance with the permit. Obviously, the west face should be illuminated and should display flashing amber indications during the normalloperational,.period. Possibly, it was not illuminated when the installation was recently "iAspected be- cause of bulb failure. This should be taken care of I.r►mt ` • The original. permit for the Cleverdale fire signal x4as,likdwise in error with respect to highway number.
