GENERAL NOTES
Designed in accordance with 2002 Residentia, Building Code of New York State.
Do not scale Drawings. Contractor shall notifi Engineer of any discrepancies in dimensions or
elevations.
Do not change size or spacing of structural' members. Contractor shall notify Engineer of
proposed deviations or substitutions from dimensions or materials shown on the Drawings and
make only those deviations or substitutions accepted by Engineer.
These Drawings do not include necessary components for construction safety. Contractor shall
be solely responsible for construction safety.
Use pressure -treated wood for all timber elements exposed to weather or in contact with soil,
water, or concrete.
FOUNDATION NOTES
Excavations shall be laid back to prevent soughing in of sides. Maintain sides and slopes of
excavations in stable condition until completion of backfilling. Foundation excavations shall be
hand trimmed to remove loose material or ridges left by equipment. Where high groundwater
exists contractor shall be responsible for maintaining dry working conditions for placement of
foundation components. Install temporary sumps and pump water away from work area as
necessary.
Backfill foundation walls with sand and gravel which are sound, durable, and free of
organic or other deleterious materiais. instr,;; backfili evenly on bath sides of walis where
necessary to prevent displacement of construction. Backfill shall not be placed against basement
walls until the walls have sufficient strength and have been anchored to the floor above.
Finished grade at perimeter of foundation shall be sloped to drain surface water away from
building. The grade away from foundation walls shall fall a minimum of 6 inches within first 10 feet.
Perimeter foundation drains shall be installed around the entire perimeter of basement as shown
on the foundation details. install perforated HDPE pipe with crushed rock wrapped in filter fabric
at or below the area to be protected and discharge by gravity or mechanical means into on
approved drainage system.
Foundation walls that are located in high water table areas or other sever soil -conditions shall be
waterproofed with a waterproof membrane `roam the top of footing to finished grade.
Anchor sill plate of exterior walls to foundation walls with 1/2 -inch anchor bolts 12 inches
maximum from each end and 6 feet maxirnum on center in between. (Minimum of two anchor
bolts in each sill piece.) Embed anchor bolts a minimum of 12 inches in concrete block
foundation walls.
Install horizontal joint reinforcing at 16" on center (every other course) and top two courses.
Joint reinforcing shall be galvanized 9 ga. truss type with diagonals not exceeding 16" on center.
Install prefabricated T's and corner sections and lap 2 feet with main reinforcing.
Reinforced masonry cores shall be grouted solid with grout. Filling masonry cores with mortar is
not acceptable. Refer to the Material Notes for grout requirements.
Install vertical wall reinforcing where spec;fiyd. Grout CMU cores solid at reinforcing locations.
If vertical reinforcing is spliced iop minirn;;r ; 18 inches al' all splices. Take care to properly
place bars in cores as dimensioned on details and sections. Ties bars in place to prevent
displacement during grouting.
