The existing residence is a 3 bedroom, single family residence. Mr. Howard indicated the existing septic system was failing and he replaced the system with a new 1,250 gallon concrete septic tank, new distribution box and 5 new laterals at 40' in length. The existing sewer main runs from the basement space and continues beneath an existing screen porch foundation that is concrete slab on grade with a concrete masonry frost wall. The depth of the existing sewer line below the floor is approximately 24". The new septic tank was placed so that the existing sewer line depth remained and the tank has a 3"drop through the tank. Using standard sewage disposal system pitches this provided a total depth of the end of the laterals at the farthest point of the field at approximately 40" below grade. The system was installed utilizing PVC sanitary drain piping with a 18" depth of stone around the pipes. The soil characteristics are well drained sand to a depth of 8' as determined by test pit dug during our site visit. There was no indication of mottling or ground water encountered. Based on our observations it appears the systems as installed will be adequate for the single family residence being served. While the ends of the laterals are deeper than recommended it is our opinion that the soil conditions present on the site will not require the system to rely on any evaporation and therefore the depth is acceptable. If there are any further questions or you would like to discuss any additional aspects of the project please call our offices. Regar Ethan P. Hail.
