REGISTRAR: This out of State transit permit is to be issued only upon receipt of a completed Certificate of
Death, or under other conditions outlined in regulations. In special emergencies, you may telephone the State
Registrar of Vital Statistics, at the expense of the applicant, for instructions.
FUNERAL DIRECTORS: This permit is required for any manner of transportation and disposition of a
dead body which is to be transported out of the State of Virginia. It must be obtained prior to removal from
the State.
When used as a permit for transportation by common carrier, this permit should be enclosed in a strong envelope
and attached to the shipping case. No separate transit permit is required.
PENALTY FOR VIOLATIONS,IS FROM $25 TO $100 AND/OR IMPRISONMENT UP TO 30
DAYS AND/OR REVOCATION OR SUSPENSION OF FUNERAL DIRECTOR'S LICENSE FOR
EACH OFFENSE.
