RESOLUTION SUPPORTING AMENDMENT OF NEW YORK STATE
EDUCATION LAW IN RELATION TO VOLUNTEER RECRUITMENT
SERVICE SCHOLARSHIPS

WHEREAS, the New York State Legislature is considering adoption of a Bill which would
amend the Education Law to make the volunteer organization recruitment scholarship program
available to the un-emancipated children of volunteer firefighters and volunteer ambulance workers and
to remove certain restrictions on the distance from institutions of higher learning to scholarship
recipients and to remove the limit of one application annually per volunteer organization, and
WHEREAS, the Queensbury Town Board supports such legislation as recruitment and
retention initiatives are essential to maintaining a strong volunteer emergency force and this legislation
would enhance the Volunteer Recruitment Scholarship Program, subsequently increasing the
recruitment and retention of volunteers, and therefore the Board wishes to adopt a Resolution
supporting adoption of this Bill by the Legislature,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT
RESOLVED, that the Queensbury Town Board hereby expresses its support of New York
State Assembly Bill No.: A10154 to amend the Education Law to make the volunteer organization
recruitment scholarship program available to the un-emancipated children of volunteer firefighters and
volunteer ambulance workers and to remove certain restrictions on the distance from institutions of
higher learning to scholarship recipients and to remove the limit of one application annually per
volunteer organization, and
BE IT FURTHER,
RESOLVED, that the Town Board further authorizes and directs the Town Supervisor’s
Office to forward certified copies of this Resolution to the New York State Governor’s Office, New
York State Senate and New York State Assembly.
