Septic& Drain completed the installation of the Thurston wastewater system today. John O'Brien made his inspection and issued his report. I also made my inspection today. I.B.S. installed the system, comprising a new 1,000-gallon septic tank with outlet baffle and filter, d-box, and two 50-foot trench lateral lines, in accord with the design prepared in this office. Attached is the deep test hole log pertaining to this project. The test hole was conducted at or near the location proposed for the new system which will replace the existing failing system in the front of the property. No groundwater or mottling existed in the upper soil strata, thereby providing adequate separation to any subsurface boundary condition for a typical septic system depth. Please do not hesitate to call if you have any questions or require additional information. Sincerely, Daniel W. Ryan, P.E. Dan Ryan examined the test pit and logged the strata (but we do not yet have his report). However, the soils are dry to a depth of five feet; no mottling or rock evident. Our percolation test, after presoak, demonstrated that the rate of drop, in the test conducted by the NYSDOH Standard Method, was stable at 9.5 minutes per inch. The corresponding absorption rate is 0.9 GPD/SF. There are three bedrooms in the home: Q = 3 x 130 = 390 GPD. The system in the back yard has 150 feet of absorption trench, The replacement absorption system in the Thurston front yard will have two 50-foot laterals with an absorptive capacity of 2 x 50 x 2 x 0.9 = 180 GPD. 390— 180 = 210 GPD to be absorbed in the backyard system at a rate of 210/ 150 x 2 = 0.7 GPD/SF. A new outlet baffle will be fitted in the septic tank by I.B.S. (The cause of failure is that the original concrete baffle fell to the floor allowing the tank contents to flow out to the absorption system.) No other changes are needed, in our opinion. We are anxious for issuance of the construction permit, mainly due to the onset of cold weather, which I know you can appreciate. Sincerely, Charles H.
