This is a one-story addition to an existing restaurant for use as a kitchen . 2 . Floor joists to be 2"x10" , 16" O .C . with every 2nd . joist doubled OR 2"x10" , 12" 0 .C . . For a restaurant and its kitchen, New State Building Code requires construction to support a live load of 100 lbs ./sq . ft. plus the dead load . 3 . Steel beam(s) for support of the wall and roof loads,where the 40ft . of existing exterior wall is to be removed, may be W12x26 or W10x22 (or heavier) for clear spans of 13 "-4" . Beam end reactions will be 8, 000 lbs . 4 . Two (2) interior steel columns for support of the steel beam(s) may be 3" schedule 40 steel pipe or 3" square structural steel tube with 1/4" walls . Axial load on each column will be 16, 000 lbs . Top and bottom steel plates for these columns shall be a minimum width of the steel beam flange width x 8" long, 5/8" thick. 5 . Steel beam(s) to be bolted or welded to column top plates . If beam(s) are in multiple pieces, they shall be connected to each other with web splice plates . 6. Column base plates must bear on full solid support carried to footings . Foundation wall block cores 12" either side of column centerlines should be filled with concrete from top of wall to footing. If column base plates rest on wood floor & joists, the joists shall be blocked in under the base plates . 7 . Steel beam support at each wall should be by four 2"x6" studs (or single 6"x6" posts) . 8 . The 10ft . span for the new roof rafters should be 2"x8" , 16" O .C . to adequately support the snow & dead loads in this area. Rafters and ceiling joists must be securely fastened at the existing building to provide adequate lateral support for the new 2"x6" exterior stud wall . 9 . This building occupancy classification is C5 . 1 Assembly, low hazard and the construction classification is Type 5b . The New York State Uniform Fire Prevention and Building Code states: Kitchens and pantries serving dining rooms, including but not limited to restaurants, cafeterias, coffee shops and lunch rooms, shall be enclosed by construction having a fire resistance of at least two hours : except that the enclosure may have a fire resistance rating of one hour where special sprinkler installation conforming to Section 1060 .4(g) of this code is provided in such kitchens and pantries .
