DISCUSSION: WEST GLENS FALLS VOLUNTEER FIRE COMPANY CONTRACT
AND APPARATUS
Supervisor Stec-Opened the Meeting to discuss the West Glens Falls Contract and their
apparatus. Noted that the MMA report does support the direction on apparatus for West
Glens Falls…I have suggested to keep this contract to 4% ..but we are also looking to
stabilize the contracts multi year contract for three years…want to make sure that the Fire
Company is confident in their numbers for the purchase of the apparatus to fit into their
budget, there should be no surprises after the three year contact.
West Glens Falls Fire Company Representative-Described the proposed aerial truck to be
purchased…314 engine will be the next engine to be replaced, the MMA report states it
should be replaced in 2014 but if we do this purchase now replacement will be in
2018…311 will be in reserve. The rescue vehicle 110 will come up in 2013 to be
refurbish that for $100,000 approximately.
Supervisor Stec-You are financing the loan for fifteen year loan.
West Glens Falls Fire Company Representative-41/2 % on the loan hoping that will go
down before we close.
Supervisor Stec-311 will go into reserve and when you are done with that one you are not
replacing it and that will be part of the resolution, the 1975 will be replaced upon deliver
of the new vehicle. What ever you get for the 1975 vehicle will be placed on the highest
outstanding debt. If we say yes to the purchase when do you take deliver and when do
payments start?
West Glens Falls Fire Company Representative-The 2009 truck can be delivered
anywhere between fifteen and thirty days. Truck described as a 2009 Crimson 100 foot
mid mount platform. Projected payment March of 2011…
Councilman Brewer-Is there any penalty if you wanted to ay ahead of time?
West Glens Falls Fire Company Representative-You could not prepay until December of
every year. The payment of $78,000 is made once a year in March.
Councilman Brewer-Requested a spread sheet from 2012 going forward to make sure the
fire company is safe…
Councilman Montesi-Questioned the drop in equipment the year you get the new truck
how does that happen?
West Glens Falls Fire Company Representative-In October we outfitted the members
with new boots so we do not have that cost, Mike’s last year as Chief we bought all new
gear so that is all set…we are tightening our belt to get this new truck.
Supervisor Stec-I think you will be safe but you will have to be frugal...
Councilman Metivier-Building and Grounds Maintenance $61,000 what does that cover?
West Glens Falls Fire Company Representative-Lawn contract $25,000 includes snow
plowing.
Councilman Metivier-All of you, everybody, you are being taken advantage of and this
has got to stop.
West Glens Falls Fire Company Representative-We went out to bid and this was the low
bid.
Councilman Brewer-Spoke about charging for the helicopter to land..

Councilman Metivier-Requested that Cost Control Associates be called on to do an audit
for the last ten years…they get a percentage on what they save.
Supervisor Stec-Would like all companies to get together on lawn care, janitorial
services, snow removal and insurance.
Councilman Montesi-Questioned what effect has the other building being under the
Association had?
West Glens Falls Fire Company Representative-None, our men still respond out of there.

Supervisor Stec-We could set a public hearing on February 1. for a hearing date for

February 22. for the contract and apparatus purchase.
