Re: erection and use of tents or membrane structures
Gentlemen,
It has been brought to my attention,that an outdoor function incorporating the use of a tent was conducted at the
above location, between June 4 and June 6, 2010. The New York State Fire Code Chapter 22 specifically regulates
the use and inspection requirements for the use of tents.
I had received a phone message from Mr. Michael O'Connor indicating that such an event was planned and it was
outside of the current review being conducted for a 40' x 90' at the site. Having said that,the 40' x 90' tent
application is still in the review process with no approval granted, and a secondary application for the above
referenced use is not on file at the Town of Queensbury. Several attempts to speak with Mr. O'Connor where not
successful.
The Fire Code requires a detailed site and floor plan along with an inspection for each use;
2403.5 Construction documents.A detailed site and floor plan for tents, canopies or membrane structures with an
occupant load of 50 or more shall be provided with each application for approval. The tent,canopy or membrane
structure floor plan shall indicate details of the means of egress facilities, seating capacity, arrangement of the
seating and location and type of heating and electrical equipment.
Any future use of tents or membrane structures at this location will require compliance with the provisions of the
NYS Fire Code and the Town of Queensbury. An application with the site details, floor plan and a certificate from
an approved agency certifying flame resistant treatment, as a minimum, will be required to conduct a review for a
permit.
