Dunham's Bay Resort—Banquet Patio
Dear Craig,
This letter is in response to Paragon Civil Engineering, P.C.'s letter of June 11, 2010.
Their comments are italicized and responses are in normal font.
General:
1. The plans were all stamped with "NOT FOR CONSTRUCTION". This stamp
must not appear on the final drawings.
Response: Our company policy is to note all drawings as "not for
construction" until such time as the reviewing authority approves the design
and any approval conditions are accounted for on the drawings (note
Queensbury policy). This procedure protects the Town and JARRETT
Engineers from undue liability if owners/contractors prematurely proceed with
inappropriate drawings.
2. Since this project site lies within a Critical Environmental Area, and there are
currently impervious areas on the site that do not currently have any SWM,
the project presents an opportunity to attempt to gain at least water quality
management of some of the existing impervious areas.
Response: Acknowledged.

Sheet Cl:
1. The plan does not indicate the locations of any inspection ports for the
designed system. Inspection ports should be designed and shown on the plan,
including any detail necessary for construction.
Response: Inspection ports have been added to the system.
2. The sizes of the connector pipes between the Stormtech units is not clearly
indicated. These pipes should be larger than the 4" inlet pipes to promote
adequate distribution between units.
Response: Connector piping to the Stormtech units has been increased to 6".
3. The 4"perforated underdrains indicated on detail 3 Cl, are not shown on the
plan view. In addition, the connection details for those pipes should be
included as well.
Response: The underdrains are shown on the plan view, and the underdrain
pipes will be connected to the yard drain/catch basins at hubs provided on the
yard drain side walls.
4. The "Graphic Scale"provided on the sheet does not seem to match the scale
of the actual drawing.
Response: The comment is correct; we checked the actual scale and we find
that it should have been shown as 1"=20' at the scale drawing submitted.
5. The silt fence shown should be extended southerly to include the proposed
concrete pad for the porta johns.
Response: Extended.
6. The direction of the pitch of the proposed concrete pad for the porta johns
should be indicated on the drawing.
Response: The porta John foundation will be pitched to shed runoff into the
patio stormwater system.

7. There is no indication on the plan where the Stabilized Construction Entrance
will be for the construction traffic accessing the site.
Response: The patio is well within the Dunham's Bay Resort property, so
existing roadways should trap sediment before it reaches Rt. 91,; in the
unlikely event that a construction entrance is necessary, it will be located off
Alexy Lane, just behind the cottages to the south of the patio.
8. The plan should indicate a washout area for the concrete truck(s).
Response: An area on the east side of the lodge site will be used as a truck
washout area.
Sheet C2:
1. No comments at this time.
Sheet D-1:
1. The Stormtech unit shown in Detail 3 Patio Section, does not conform to the
minimum requirements of the manufacturer. Specifically, a minimum of 6" of
stone between the units, and a geotextile fabric must be included. We strongly
suggest a separate detail of the Stormtech unit to be shown for clarity.
Response: There is one row of Stormtech units, so no stone between units is
required; however, we inadvertently left out 6" of stone beneath the units,
which is recommended by the manufacturer to yield a consistent foundation,
and this has been added. We take issue with the geotextile fabric around
stormwater (exfiltration) devices, as the fabric can plug with silt and cause
premature failure; the fabric has been added atop the stone only.
2. The stone used in the SWMfacility must be specified as "Washed" stone, and
the specifications clearly indicated on the drawing.
Response: Added.
3. The yard drain and grate indicated should specify the material, manufacturer
and depths, as well as the invert elevations.
Response: There are a number of small yard drain manufacturers, however,
we have added specifications for guidance.

4. The drawings should include the maintenance requirements and
responsibilities for the swale, yard drains and Stormtech units.
Response: Added.
5. In detail 5C, a minimum flow depth should be indicated when the planking is
usedfor crossing.
Response: Added.
