2009-05-05 Queensbury Parks and Recreation Commission Queensbury, NY 12804 Minutes of the May 5, 2009 regular meeting of the Town of Queensbury Parks and Recreation Commission held at the Town of Queensbury Supervisor's Conference Room In the absence of Chairman Irish, Vice Chairman White called the meeting to order at 7:03 pm Roll Call: • Present—Fusco, LaBombard, Maine, Mott, White • Excused— Conboy, Irish • Staff—Director Lovering, Assistant Director O'Shaughnessy • Guests—Ken Santucci, Eric Catalano, Colleen Halse, Joan Lentim representing Queensbury Rowing Club Approval of Minutes: It was moved by Commissioner Maine, seconded by Commissioner LaBombard , to approve the minutes from the April 7, 2009 meeting. All members present approved. Presentation by Queensbury Rowing Club— Discussion included overview of the sport, types of rowing boats, also numbers of students (Saratoga, Queensbury etc). Large invitational meets can be brought into the community. This brings in revenue for the community. College scholarships are available to students. This sport also provides an alternative for student athletes. Need for storage facility(20x60x16) for boats. There is some concern on size and location of the storage facility. No money needed from Town. Question about the existing dock expansion and what is needed for rowing. Also cost to student for participating is about $300 per season. Financial help is available for those in need. Commission approves this rowing proposal pending insurance, attorney review. Communications and Remarks from Visitors: (see file for copies) • Monthly Correspondence • Letter from Director Lovering to Kevin Sprague congratulating him on reaching the level of Eagle Scout. • E-mails between Supervisor Stec and Director Lovering regarding re- design of dry hydrant located on Glen Lake to avoid clogging of intake. • E-mail from Supervisor Stec on concept of smoke free policy on all Town properties. • Memo from Chairman Irish to Union members regarding interview schedules to determine "hostile work environment" accusation along with several e-mails regarding same. Commission was under the impression these interviews would not take place. o E-mails regarding Dog park issue • Budget Control Report dated 4-27-2009 • Employee Roster Report-no change Unfinished Business • Recreation Aquatics Supervisor position—interviews on Monday and Tuesday May 5 and 6 by Director Lovering and Assistant O'Shaughnessy. Seven candidates narrowed down to two definites and one other possible. Final interview with personnel committee on Monday May I Ith beginning at 1:00 pm. • Gurney Lane Pool repair project—breakdown of costs for Phase I and II submitted by Aquatic Commerical Solutions, Inc. Motion by Commissioner LaBombard seconded by Commissioner Maine to approve beginning of Phase IL All members present approved. • West End Park Dedication scheduled for May 16th at 11:00 a.m. New Business • Ridge/Jenkinsville Park Dedication—discussion on informal "Open House" type of dedication. Date will be June 6111 Games will be going on at the time. Commission agreed on this format. • Queensbury Rowing Club presentation and discussion (see above) • Smoking Ban at Town Owned Parks supported by Commission.
