Dr Robert Reeves on the lot to the north and Byron Campise on the lot to the south. n/a The need for crossing the approximate 540 square feet of the total 129,163 square foot of the contiguous pocket wetlands is to gain direct access to the rear half of my five and a half acre property. About 700 feet from the home site is the shore of the Hudson river which my family and I hope to be able to enjoy. To that same end, I would potentially like to excavate part of the river bank. Right now it is unstable from undermining caused by high water. By excavating a slope down to the waterfront, I can remove the dangerous sixteen foot dropoff, and I can build access to the shore and attempt to retain as much of the existing vegetation as possible. Robert Reeves is the owner of lot #4 directly to the north. Byron K Campisi is the owner lot #6 directly to the south. As far as I know, there is no environmental impact statement. I believe that filling this small area of a larger pocket minimizes the disturbance to the wetlands. Percentage wise, the disturbed area represents .4% of the total 129,163 square feet of the contiguous wetlands. The option that the developer left for me and the two owners around me was a shared easement that makes its way around the wetlands. The easement travels through areas that are not designated as wetland, but that are wet in the Spring and after large storms. There are railroad ties laid out at multiple locations (shown in pictures) around the easement to walk on to keep your feet out of the seasonal water. It is not a path that a utility vehicle like a Gator or a golf cart could travel on. To make that possible, there would have to be a much greater disturbance of the area. This would involve lots of fill and lots of culverts. I think it would take years for the three involved owners to agree on and complete a project like this. Another downside of the easement is that it takes away from each owner's privacy. The easement crosses very closely behind the proposed homesites on each property. Also, the distance to travel to the water is more than twice that of the proposed trail. My goal is to be able to create a winding gravel path through the woods for my enjoyment and to transport my aging in-laws across the property for enjoyment of the waterfront. Alternatives to the excavation to create a sloped entrance to the shore is to leave it to nature to cave in over time and build access to the water at a different location at the shore. The area will remain a hazardous 16’ dropoff.
