Building and Landscaping Modifications
Northway Self-Storage Facility
162 Carey Road, Town of Queensbury
March 2022
During the March 15, 2022 Town of Queensbury Planning Board meeting a couple of the Planning
Board members expressed concerns about the site aesthetics along the frontage on Carey Road.
The concerns were that the proposed self-storage building would not be visually appealing and
would be more visible than the current self-storage buildings on the site.
In order to help alleviate the planning boards concerns the applicant reached out to the building
manufacturer in order to discuss possible options for improving the visual aesthetics of the
buildings, specifically the building that will be located closest to the front of the site. Options that
were discussed included the use of a stone look veneer on at least a portion of the building,
creating a two tone look with the upper half of the building a different color and style then the lower
half, and using a different color material that does not “stand out” as much as the previously
proposed beige color.
After discussions with the building manufacturer the applicant determined that using a stone look
veneer or a two-tone look would add to much cost, both in additional labor and materials, to the
project to allow them the meet the rental price point for the units that make this project viable. The
applicant determines that the most cost-effective solution is to use a dark green forest color metal
siding on the side of the building that faces the road. The applicant is also proposing to plant
extensive foundation plantings of varying heights along the road side of the building to break up
the long blank façade of the building. Attached is a rendering of what this building would look like
during the winter months when leaves are off the trees and plants.
