RE: Septic System
20 Westland Ave.
Dear Dave:
This is to inform you that I inspected the replacement septic system being constructed by Jay
Sweet at 20 Westland Avenue this morning.
This system is an absorption bed with overall dimensions of 19 feet wide by 22-feet long. There
are 4 distribution laterals spaced at approximately 4Y2feet on center. The ends of the laterals are
tied together, -Edge distances are approximately 2V2feet on the-West, north and east sides of the
bed and I Meet on the south side.
The southwest comer of the field had to be tapered off and the southernmost lateral shortened by
about 2V2feet in order to maintain a 20 foot separation from the house.basement. However, the
actual area of the bed is still 410 square feet which is well over the required 348 square feet.
Based upon my inspection, I believe that the system will function properly and complies in
essence with the design requirements-. Please call me if you have any questions.

Re: Percolation Test
20 Westland Ave, Queensbury, NY
Dear Jay:
At your request, on August 14, 2003, 1 performed a percolation test at 20 Westland Ave in
Queensbury. The test was performed in the front lawn area in the location where construction of a
replacement leach field is proposed.
The results of the percolation test yielded a percolation rate of less than 5 minutes per inch. The
test was run in the native sand and gravel at a depth of 24 inches in a 30 inch deep hole.
The design flow rate for an absorption bed system serving a 3 bedroom residence is 450 gallons
per day which would require a minimum 474 sf absorption bed at the above mentioned
percolation rate.
As per our discussions the available area for a new absorption system is limited to less than the
474 sf required. In order to reduce the size of the absorption bed certain steps must be taken to
reduce the design flow rate. If the homeowner installs new water saving toilets and shower heads
the flow rate may be reduced to 110 gallons per bedroom, which equals a design flow rate of 330
gallons per day. The design flow rate of 330 gallons per day would require an absorption bed
equal to 360 sf or 18 ft by 20 ft. As I informed you by telephone, Dave Hatin (Town of
Queensbury Code Enforcement Officer) agreed that this is an acceptable method for replacement
of the existing system, but he adv* ised that the new water saving fixtures must be installed before
final inspection and approval of the replacement system will be completed by the Town of
Queensbury.
Please call me if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Thomas R. Center Jr., EI 1000
