The tests were performed in the location of the proposed septic system, approximately 40 feet directly downhill from the north-northwest corner of the house. The results of the testing are as follows: Deep test 0-10" topsoil 10-24" loamy med. to fine sand w/stones 24-48" fine to coarse sand w/gravel &stones 48-66" compact fine to coarse sand w/gravel& stones very slight mottling at 36"; moist at 54"; no water Percolation test Stabilized percolation rate— 1" in 8 minutes, 55 seconds Based upon these tests, I recommend constructing the proposed septic system as a shallow trench system with the bottom of the trenches no.more than 12 inches below the existing grade. Based upon a 3 bedroom house and a percolation rate of 8 to 10 minutes, you will need a total of 217 lineal feet of 2 foot wide trench. I recommend using 4 .trenches each 55 feet long. This is basically a single-story residence with occupied space at the lower level (basement)and an attached 3-car garage at the 1st. floor level. 2. First floor joists 1 3/4" x 11 7/8" "I" or Truss Joist joists, 16" O.C. are satisfactory for support of total live&dead loads of 50 PSF. 3. Main house and garage roof support is by pre-engineered trusses 24" 0.C. with pitch of 8" in 12". The truss manufacturer shall be responsible for the design and construction of all trusses to support a live load of 28 PSF normal to the roof surface plus all dead loads of lumber, roofing, insulation and ceiling finish. The truss manufacturer shall design the trusses to carry the additional load of the screened porch rafters & roof. The contractor shall be responsible for the installation and bracing of all trusses per instructions from the truss manufacturer. 4. Screened porch construction of double 1 3/4"x 9 Y2"Truss Joist rafters, 3'-4"J.C. should support a total live & dead load of 70 PSF' on a span of 16ft. with deflection not exceeding 1/240 span (check with Truss Joist to confirm rafter choice and loading). Outboard rafter support of double 2"x8" headers supported at 4ft. Q.C. with 4"x4" PT posts is satisfactory. Support for deck and porch floors of double 2"x12" PT outboard headers on 4"x6" PT posts and 8" dia. concrete piers on 16"x16"x8" concrete pads (48" below grade)are adequate. Deck joists to be 2"x8" PT, 16" 0.C. and 2"x12" PT, 16" Q.C. as detailed on plans. 5. Front porch slab on grade and frost wall, as detailed on plans, is satisfactory if slab, is doweled or otherwise tied to house wall to prevent settling. Main house trusses to be supported on main house exterior stud wall(not on outboard porch headers). 6. Basement girders of triple 13/4"x 11 7/8"LVL's(max_ span= 13'-5")are satisfactory for 1st. floor support. It is recommended that the LVL members have joints staggered to result in a one-piece girder over the posts. The 4" dia. steel lally columns on 30"x30"x12" reinforced concrete pads are adequate support for the girders. Lally columns must be rated for a minimum axial load of 14,0001bs. and top plates must be = wide enough to give full support across the width of the girder(s). 7. The 8"concrete foundation walls, 8"frost walls and 2"x6" stud walls(all lower level)on 16"x8"reinforced concrete footings and the 4"reinforced concrete floors are satisfactory as shown&detailed on plans. 8.
