In order to meet the requirements of the National Flood Insurance Program you must take steps concerning your addition to reduce the potential for flood damage, as you are located within the Flood Zone for Halfway Brook. • Attached to this letter is an application with information that must be provided to this office by a Licensed Surveyor on your behalf, along with some additional requirements. Those additional requirements require that if you maintain the crawl space, as is currently shown on your plans, you must create a minimum of two openings that have a net area of not less than one square inch for every square foot of floor area for your addition. This means you would have to provide 840 square inches of venting in your crawl space by means of louvers or some type of openable vents that would allow water to pass through your crawl space in the event of a flood. These louvers or vents must be provided at opposite ends of the crawl space,must be located no higher than one foot above finished grade and be equipped with screens or some type of other device that would permit water to enter your crawl space, in th&event of a flood, and exit the crawl space through the opposite louver or vent. No utilities such as hot water tanks, furnaces, electrical panel box are allowed to be placed in this crawl space.
