PREFERABLY BY MEANS OF A TORQUE WRENCH. THE CORRECT RANGE OF TORQUE. AS INDICATED BY A TORQUE WRENCH OR THE LENGTH OF WRENCH (IF NOT A TORQUE WRENCH) USED BY AN AVERAGE MAN TO PRODUCE SUCH RANGE OF TORQUE, SHALL NOT EXCEED THE VALUES SPECIFIED BELOW: TORQUE RANGE VALUES (3/4 INCH BOLTS) RANGE OF TORQUE 60-90 LB. -FT. LENGTH OF WRENCH 10 INCHES IF EFFECTIVE SEAUNG OF THE JOINT IS NOT ATTAINED AT THE MAXIMUM TORQUE INDICATED ABOVE, THE JOINT SHALL BE DISASSEMBLED AND THOROUGHLY CLEANED, THEN REASSEMBLED. BOLTS SHALL NOT BE OVERSTRESSED TO TIGHTEN A LEAKING JOINT. SETTING VALVES VALVES AND VALVE BOXES SHALL BE SET PLUMB AND CENTERED WITH THE VALVE BOX DIRECTLY OVER THE OPERATING NUT. BACKFILL AROUND THE VALVES SHALL BE AS SPECIFIED ABOVE UNDER BACKFIWNG SECTION. CLEANING PRIOR TO THE PRESSURE AND LEAKAGE TESTS. THE PIPING SHALL BE THOROUGHLY CLEANED OF ALL DIRT, DUST. OIL, GREASE, AND OTHER FOREIGN MATERIAL THIS WORK SHALL BE DONE WITH CARE TO AVOID DAMAGE TO UNINGS AND COATING, ALL PIPEUNES SHALL BE GIVEN COMBINED PRESSURE AND LEAKAGE TESTS. FURNISH AND INSTALL SUITABLE TEMPORARY TESTING PLUGS OR CAPS; ALL NECESSARY PRESSURE PUMPS, PIPE CONNECTIONS, AND OTHER SIMILAR EQUIPMENT; AND ALL LABOR REQUIRED. 1. PIPEUNES IN EXCAVATION OR ENCASED IN CONCRETE SHALL BE TESTED PRIOR TO THE BACKFIWNG OF THE EXCAVA11ON OR PLACING OF THE CONCRETE. 2. UNLESS IT HAS ALREADY BEEN DONE. THE SECTION OF PIPE TO BE TESTED SHALL BE FILLED WITH WATER OF APPROVED QUAUTY. AND ALL AIR SHALL BE EXPELLED FROM THE PIPE. IF HYDRANTS OR BLOWOFFS ARE NOT AVAILABLE AT HIGH POINTS FOR RELEASING AIR. MAKE THE NECESSARY EXCAVATIONS AND DO THE NECESSARY BACKFIWNG AND MAKE THE NECESSARY TAPS AT SUCH POINTS AND PLUG SAID HOLES AFTER COMPLETION OF THE TEST. 3. THE SECTION UNDER TEST SHALL BE MAINTAINED FULL OF WATER FOR A PERIOD OF TWENTY-FOUR (24) HOURS PRIOR M THE COMBINED PRESSURE AND LEAKAGE TEST BEING APPLIED. 4. ALL NEW UNDERGROUND PIPING SHALL BE TESTED IN ACCORDANCE WITH NATIONAL FIRE PROTECTION ASSOCIATION TESTS FOR UNDERGROUND SPRINKLER WATER MAINS. 5. ALL ONES SHALL BE FLUSHED UPON COMPLETION OF TESTING. ;:�BILJ7.IdG. STERIUZING OF THE WATER MAINS SHALL BE PERFORMED IN STRICT ACCORDANCE WITH THE LATEST EDITION OF AWWA C601, STANDARD FOR DISINFECTING WATER MAINS. FINAL FLUSHING ' AFTER THE APPUCABLE REiEN71ON PERIOD, THE HEAVILY CHLORINATED WATER SHALL BE FLUSHED FROM THE MAIN UNTIL THE CHLORINE CONCENTRATION IN THE WATER LEAVING THE MAIN IS NO HIGHER THAN THAT GENERALLY PREVAIUNG IN THE SYSTEM OR LESS THAN 1 MG/L. CHLORINE RESIDUAL DETERMINATION SHALL BE MADE TO ASCERTAIN THAT THE HEAVILY CHLORINATED WATER HAS BEEN REMOVED FROM THE PIPEUNE. BACTERIOLOGIC TESTS AFTER FINAL FLUSHING AND BEFORE THE WATER MAIN IS PLACED IN SERVICE. A SAMPLE OR SAMPLES SHALL BE COLLECTED FROM THE END OF THE UNE AND TESTED FOR BACTERIOLOGIC QUAUTY AND SHALL SHOW THE ABSENCE OF COUFORM ORGANISMS. IF THE NUMBER AND FREQUENCY OF SAMPLES IS NOT PRESCRIBED BY THE PUBUC HEALTH AUTHORITY HAVING JURISDICTION. AT LEAST ONE SAMPLE SHALL BE COLLECTED FROM CHLORINATED SUPPUES WHERE A CHLORINE RESIDUAL IS MAINTAINED THROUGHOUT THE NEW MAIN. FROM UNCHLORINATED SUPPLIES AT LEAST TWO SAMPLES SHALL BE COLLECTED AT LEAST 24 HR APART. IN THE CASE OF EXTREMELY LONG MAINS, IT IS DESIRABLE THAT SAMPLES BE COLLECTED THE LENGTH OF THE UNE AS WELL AS AT ITS END. SAMPLES FOR BACTERIOLOGIC ANALYSIS SHALL BE COLLECTED IN STERILE BOTTLES TREATED WITH SODIUM THIOSULPHATE. NO HOSE OR FIRE HYDRANT SHALL BE USED IN COLLECTION OF SAMPLES. A SUGGESTED SAMPUNG TAP CONSISTS OF A STANDARD CORPORATION COCK INSTALLED IN THE MAIN WITH A COPPER TUBE GOOSENECK ASSEMBLY. AFTER SAMPLES HAVE BEEN COLLECTED THE GOOSENECK ASSEMBLY MAY BE REMOVED, AND RETAINED FOR FUTURE USE REPETITION OF PROCEDURE IF THE INITIAL DISINFECTION FAILS TO PRODUCE SATISFACTORY SAMPLES. DISINFECTION SHALL BE REPEATED UNTIL SATISFACTORY SAMPLES HAVE BEEN OBTAINED. WHEN THE SAMPLES ARE SATISFACTORY, THE MAIN MAY BE PLACED IN SERVICE.
