TOWN OF Q _ENSBURY PLANNING OFFICE January 14, 2008 I am writing in response to the application made by Everest Enterprises in regards to an expansion of The Sleep Inn and Suites on Route 9. This site plan is very close to historic Blind Rock just off Route 9 and Momray Road. An historic marker located at the intersection of Route 9 and Montray Road denotes this landmark. Blind Rock in a natural gneiss rock which served as a boundary marker in colonial times denoting the lands of the French and the British prior to and during the French and Indian War. It was often noted as a crossroads for Native Americans and travellers. Stories of ambushes at the sight, while possible, have not been documented historically. Nevertheless, the rock remains as an important part of our heritage here in Queensbury. From the time that Dr. Charles Eisenhardt served as the town historian until my present service as the town's public historian, numerous attempts have been made to acquire and preserve this important historical site making it a pocket park for the public to know and appreciate. To date, the Kapoor family has not been unresponsive to our requests to discuss the preservation of the site. Now that fu Cher development is underway on the Kapoor property time is now of the essence to save this historic treasure before it is lost. I am suggesting that prior to approving any expansion of the Kapoor property that a dialogue be established between town representatives and the Kapoors to mitigate this important matter. I am very willing to participate in such a discussion. Sincerely yours, Marilyn J.Van Dyke Town Historian FIRE MARSHAL'S OFFICE Torun of Queeusbunif 742 Bay Rood, Queensbury, NY 12804 "Home of Natural Beauty... A Good Place to Live" PLAN REVIEW Site Review SP 60-2007 Everest Enterprises (Sleep inn) 12/31/2007 RECEIVED 70P ANNINGOFFIBERY I have reviewed the submitted site drawings for the above project, and offer the following: 1) No site concerns at this time, with the proposed expansion, however I do need to point out an access issue that exists from the original construction; Frontal property access to the structure is severely limited by the concrete divider installed in the driving access lanes from Route 9. This divider allows minimal access of an Engine and no access for a Tower Ladder truck Removal of the divider would greatly enhance the timely access of emergency services vehicles. I would suggest the area in question be limited to ingress to the facility only, and all traffic leavings be routed to the other two exits where signaling devices xist.
