This inspection was made at the request of Mr. Dave Howard(the excavator), and Mr. Vasiliou. It is my understanding that the cracks occurred when Mr. Howard backfilled the outside of this wall prior to the first floor framing being installed. Mr. Howard noticed that the backfill had bowed the middle of the wall inward and he immediately removed the backfill. When I observed the cracks the soil outside of the wall had been removed and the cracks had been reduced so that they were barely noticeable. From that time no backfill was placed against the wall until the first floor framing and deck were in place to brace the top of the wall and the rest of the house framing was in place to add weight to the top of the wall keeping it in compression. Due to their small size and configuration, the cracks in this wall do not pose any structural problem. They are very similar to the shrinkage cracking which regularly occurs in a poured house foundation.
