A clarification on the design for the fire wall must be submitted. You might consider a steel roof on the new addition with the top of the roof three feet above the existing wall. If you wish to keep the combustible construction, as shown on the plans, then you must create a three hour return on the under side of the roof deck, on both sides of the fire wall. The existing block wall and new wall must meet a 3 hour rating. 2. The TJI's must be fire cut into the wall that they will rest on. The detail currently shown on the drawings does not meet the Code for fire cuts. You should also check with the TJI manufacturer to assure fire cuts can be made to the TJI's. 3. The west exit door must be 44 inches in the loading dock area. 4. All doors in the three hour fire wall must be three hour rated. 5. All doors in the stairways must be three-quarter hour rated. 6. The stairways must have a three quarter hour rating, which means that all walls must be 5/8th Type X sheet rock on the inside of the stairwell,as well as the outside wall surrounding the stairwell. 7. 5/8th's sheet rock is required on the lower stock room wall. You must extend the wall for the lower stock room from the floor to the under side of the floor decking above, to maintain a one hour rating. The doors in this wall must be three quarter hour rated. 8. All doors must have lever handles. 9. We need design loads for snow, floor and wind load on the building. 10. Exit lights and emergency lights must be shown as discussed on the drawing in all areas to show proper exiting from the building,as well as emergency lighting in all areas of the building. "HOME OF NATURAL BEAUTY . . . A GOOD PLACE TO LIVE" SETTLED 1763 11. All north wall exit doors must ramp to grade. It is suggested that the grade be five inches or less from threshold of the door, otherwise handrails would be required on both sides of the ramped section. I believe this completes the review of all items for your building permit. Once these items have been satisfactorily addressed on a building plan and stamped by the engineer,we will issue a building permit Thank you for your anticipated cooperation. Sincerely, David Hatin,Director Building and Code Enforcement DH/mg • §770.5 TITLE 9 EXECUTIVE TABLE IV-770 PARAPET WALLS Required fire-resistance rating Minimum fire-resistance Minimum height of of building wall in hours rating of parapet wall in hours parapet wall in feet 3/4 1 1 1 2 2 2 3or4 3 3 Historical Note Sec.filed Dec. 13, 1983;amd.filed July 7, 1995 eff.July 26, 1995.Amended(b). §770.6 Party walls. (2) Openings.shall not be permitted in party walls. (b) Construction. (1) Party walls shall form a continuous fire and smoke barrier between adjoining buildings and foundations to or through the roof, and in the event of removal or collapse of construction on one side shall not endanger the support of construction on the opposite side, and shall be capable of serving as exterior walls. (2) Party walls shall be constructed of noncombustible materials and shall extend above the roof to form a parapet wall,in conformity with the requirements of table IV-770 of this Part, when either building is of type 2b, 3, 4 or 5 construction. When a roof is of noncombustible construction having a fire-resistance rating of at least three fourths hour, a party wall may terminate at the underside of the roof, providing the junction of the wall and roof is made smoketight; where a roof is of combusible construction or of noncombustible construction having a fire-resistance rating less than three fourths hour, a party wall may terminate at the underside of the roof, provided that roof is protected with noncombustible construction of the same fire-resistance rating as the party wall for a distance of at least 24 inches on each side of the party wall. (3) Party walls shall be made smoketight at their junction with exterior walls. In type 5 construction, the exterior walls shall be protected with noncombustible construction of the same fire-resistance rating at the party walls for a distance of at least 24 inches on each side of the party wall,or the party wall shall project through the exterior wall at least 12 inches. (5) Where combustible members, such as joists and beams, are framed into fire walls, such combustible members shall not extend through the wall but shall have at least four inches of solid noncombustible material below and at the sides and ends of such members in buildings of low or moderate hazard occupancy, and at least six inches when either building is of high hazard occupancy. (b) Fire resistance. The fire-resistance ratings of fire walls shall be the same as for party walls, as set forth in section 770.6(c) of this code except that in buildings of group C6.3 occupancy in which an automatic sprinkler system is installed in accordance with section 1060.4 of this code,a fire wall having a fire-resistance rating of two hours is permitted. Historical Note Sec.filed Dec.13,1983;amd.filed July 7, 1995 eff.July 26,1995.Amended(a)(2)and(b). §771.3 Protection of columns, beams, girders and trusses in buildings of types 1 and 2a construction. (a) Columns and vertical suspension members shall be individually encased throughout their length by fire-protective materials having fire-resistance ratings prescribed in table III-704 of this code, except as provided in subdivisions (d) and(e)of this section. (b) Beams.girders and trusses supporting more than one floor,or a roof and at least one floor, shall be individually encased throughout their length by fire-protective material having fire- . resistance ratings prescribed in table III-704 of this code, except as provided in subdivisions (d) and(e)of this section. (c) Beams. girders and trusses supporting only one floor or a roof shall be individually encased by fire-protective material or be fire-protected by a continuous ceiling to provide a fire- resistance rating equivalent to that required for the floor or roof construction which they support or of which they form a part, as prescribed in table III-704 of this code, except as provided in subdivisions(d)and(e)of this section, and except that protection of such members is not required for roof construction where the lowest portion of such members is 20 feet or more above the floor • next below, provided the building is equipped with a sprinkler system or a fire- and smoke- detecting system. (d) That portion of structural steel exposed on the exterior of a building is not required to be encased or enclosed by fire-protective materials, provided that the distance separation is not less 12,226 Executive Jan-Oct 1995 470 APPED I.R.F. o 475 l 1 .1 1 EXISTING TREES 3' 0• N N,N z 1 1 1 1 CAPPED I.R.F.
