The installation of any cooking device, after July 1995, which generates grease or vapors must be protected with a code compliant mechanical exhaust system and a code compliant fixed fire suppression system. If electrical fixtures are installed inside of the exhaust hood, these devices must also be specifically'listed and labeled as being NFPA 96 compliant. You may recall several discussions we,had during the planning and construction phase of the building, concerning this very.subject. Now that the building is completed and in operation, it Will be a bit more difficult, but just as necessary to make the alterations code compliant. Based on a review of your proposed Cool Beans located at the intersection of Everts Avenue and Quaker Road,the following list of items need to be corrected on the plans before a building permit could be issued for this structure. These items are based on the plans submitted to this office. /The building construction type must be 4A construction,which means all exterior bearing walls must be 2 hour rated,all interior bearing walls must be three quarter(3/4) hour rated, and all floor systems and roof systems must be three quarter (3/4) hour rated. The stairs leading from the second story to grade must be of noncombustible construction and have a tread rise of seven inches and a tread width of eleven inches. Although it is not required to have a second exit,it is recommended that the second exit out of the dining area be 44 inches and have panic hardware. A general note on the plans that requires firestopping as required by Section 771.5 of New York State Uniform Building Code. A schedule of the interior finishes that show'that they meet a Class A or B Rating,as required by Section 772.2 of the Code. The wind load needs to be shown on the plans.
