Town of Queensbury 745 Bay Road Queensbury, NY 12804 Attn: Mr. Dave Hatin RE: Bayberry Subdivision, Phase II Lot #16 Septic System Gentlemen: On August 281h, I observed a test pit at the north side of lot # 16 in Phase II of Bayberry Subdivision. This test pit was dug for the purpose of determining the type of septic system required on this lot. The approved subdivision drawings called for a shallow trench absorption field based upon test pit # 14 that was located at the south end of the lot where the absorption field was originally planned. However, the final layout for the lot located the house at the south end and the septic on the north. The new test pit was located in the area proposed for the absorption field. The log of the test pit is: 0-5" silt loam 5-33" silty clay loam 33-44" silty clay loam, slightly compact 44- 108 varved silt and very fine sand moist/loose mottling (4� 54" no ,groundwater observed Based upon the presence of the slightly compact clay loam layer, I recommended that the contractor over-dig the trenches to below this layer and backfill up to the bottom of the absorption trenches with medium to fine sand. A standard absorption trench system should be installed as shallow as possible working from the existing house floor elevation. Given the soils in the area of the proposed septic system, I believe that this will result in a better system than a normal shallow trench system. Please call me if you have any questions.
