HARTY DISCUSSION ON REGIONAL BUS SYSTEM SUPERVISOR WALTER- ME HAVE BEEN TALKING ABOUT A REGIONAL BUS SYSTEM FOR SOME TIME THERE HAS BEEN SOME PLANNING DONE BY THE CITY OF GLENS FALLS AND THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION , THE PURPOSE OF THIS EVENINGS MEETING IS TO GIVE THE PUBLIC A LITTLE MORE INFORMATION, QUEENSBURY RESIDENTS IN PARTICULARS OF WHAT IS IN STORE AS THE SYSTEM NOW STANDS. INTRODUCED MR. WILLIAM ACQUARIO OF D. O .T. MR. ACQUARIO-IN THE LAST YEAR AND A HALF WE HAVE BEEN WORKING WITH THE CITY OF GLENS FALLS ON A REGIONAL BUS SYSTEM. THE BUSSES WILL BE AR3VING IN MAY OR JUNE OF THIS YEAR. THE LOCAL COMMUNITIES COST ARE ONLY ESTIMATES A LOT WILL DEPEND OF THE RIDERSHIP. STATE AND FEDERAL AID ARE PROJECTED ON THE TOTAL MILEAGE AND ARE REASONABLE ESTIMATES . MR. DONN VICHLER- D. O .T. THE PURPOSE OF A BUS SYSTEM IS, TO GET PEOPLE FROM WHERE THEY AREA TO WHERE THEY WANT TO GO. ONE CONSIDERATION IN PREPARING THE ROUTES IS THE PLACEMENT WHERE THERE ARE ACCUMULATIONS OF PEOPLE. MOST OF THE PROPOSED ROUTES CAN BE RUN , OUT AND BACK WITHIN A HALF HOUR. THE SYSTEM WAS SET UP SO THAT THE BUSSES WILL MEET AT A COMMON TERMINAL FOR TRANSFERS. IF DOWN THE ROAD THIS PROJECT CONTINUES TO BE SUCESSFUL. AT THAT PARTICULAR POINT. THE CITY REMAINS ON THE HOOK TO OPERATE THE SYSTEM IN THOSE AREAS THAT ARE STILL IN THE CONTRACT-FOR THOSE TWO YEARS WE WOULD HAVE TO HAVE SOME ADJUSTMENTS. WE TRIED TO PRESENT A SYSTEM WHICH SERVES THE GREAT NEEDS IN QUEENSBURY AND GLENS FALLS AND THE OTHER COMMUNITIES AND TRIED TO WORK IN THAT FRAME WORK. IF WE FIND THAT AFTER SEVERAL MONTHS THE LINE TO ACC IS NOT GOING TO MAKE ANY MONEY, THEN THAT WILL BE DROPPED, THAT DROP OF THAT LINE WILL REDUCE WHAT WE HAVE TRIED TO PROJECT TO THE TOWN OF QUEENSBURY-FROM THE CITY IS THE MAXIMUM OPERATING EXPENSES THAT YOU CAN EXPECT IN ONE YEAR, WHAT I DID NOT WANT TO HAPPEN, THAT AFTER THREE OR FOUR MONTHSjTO COME TO FRAN AND THE TOWN BOARD AND SAY WE UNDERESTIMATED THE EXPENSITURES AND YOU HAVE GOT TO COME UP WITH ANOTHER FIVE OR EIGHT THOUSAND DOLLARS TO CARRY YOU THROUGH THE YEAR , I TRIED TO GIVE YOU A MAXIMUM EXPOSURE OF $14 ,000 PER YEAR-THE CITY HAS AN EXPOSURE OF $23-24 THOUSAND FOR THE FIRST YEAR. TO SAY THEY ' RE SKEWED IN FAVOR OF THE CITY OF GLENS FALLS IS AN OBVIOUS UNDERSTATEMENT. I GENUINELY SUPPORT AND ADMIRE THE REVITALIZATION EFFORTS INVOLVING GLENS FALLS , BUT I DO HAVE A LEGITIMATE COMPLAINT. MY BUSINESSES , AUDIO GENESIS AND THE VIDEO CENTER ARE LOCATED ON QUAKER ROAD BETWEEN RTE. 9 AND BAY ROAD. THIS AREA IS NOT REALISTICALLY ACCESSIBLE BY PEDESTRIAN TRAFFIC DUE TO HEAVY VEHICULAR TRAFFIC AND THE LACK OF SIDEWALKS . AND , WHILE THE QUAKER ROAD IS THE MOST DIRECT ROUTE FROM HUDSON FALLS TO THE AVIATION MALL AND MY BUSINESSES , THE PROPOSED BUS ROUTES CIR- CUMVENT ME ALTOGETHER WHILE MAKING A TRIP TO AVIATION MALL IN- i DIRECT AND TEDIOUS AT BEST. SURELY THE SUBSTANTIAL TAX CONTRIBUTION BY THE TOWN OF QUEENS- BURY WARRANTS MORE THOUGHTFUL CONSIDERATION THAN THIS. I ' D LIKE TO GO ON RECORD AS BEING OPPOSED TO THE CURRENTLY PROPOSED BUSSING SCHEDULE.
