The air conditioning unit will be damaged by grease build-up and cease to work in a short period of time. We feel strongly that we should inform you of the following in writing: The roof top air conditioning unit is located above the kitchen area and is designed to use the ceiling space as return air plenum. Due to the nature of greasy kitchen air, all the return air must corue from the dining area. By the building code, the ceiling space above the kitchen area is completely separated by fire rated wall from the ceiling space above the dining area. There is only one 18"x 18" opening for air to return froze dining area to the AC unit. Because the air passage is not adequate for the air flow rate of the unit, the unit will be staxving for air and take in the greasy air from kitchen area through the gaps of ceiling tiles. This will cause grease to build upon the surface of cooling coil,block the coil, and damage the AC unit. Thus, we believe,'in order to avoid the above situation, a return air duct that links dining area to the AC unit must be installed.
