More specifically, by providing an interior post located in the center of each of the rafters, the frame components will safely support a uniformly distributed roof load of 50 pounds per square foot of covered area. .. The post should be a 1 1/2"x3"tube, item#9222A, made of 6063-T6 aluminum alloy. Since such a tube is very susceptible to buckling, for instance by being subjected to a lateral load, we recommend using two tubes at each location, screwed together. The structures evaluated were lean-to models with projections up to 15 fleet. The structural members are constructed of 6063-T6 aluminum alloy tubular rafters and verticals spaced at three foot modular centers. The uniform roof slope of the rafters is 1-1/2 to 12. Our analysis shows that the frame components will safely support a uniformly distributed roof load of 30 pounds per square foot of covered area and forces from a wind speed of 90 mph blowing in the direction parallel to the rafters. The Sun-Porch requires proper support and anchorage to assure acceptable performance of the finished product. Attachment must be to properly designed building and base wall components to prevent settlement, slippage or uplift. ' The roof glazing consists of panels of double-wall polycarbonate made by General Electric under the trade name Lexan . The wall glazing is Rohm&Haas Plexi-Glas DR acrylic plastic sheets bonded in aluminum framed panels.
