This is a single-story addition to an existing automobile dealership building. 2. This addition will be used as a 5-bay car washing area with Use classification of C3 . 1 Industrial, Low Hazard and a Construction Classification of 5b . Walls of this addition will be non-combustible concrete block and the floor will be ' a 6" concrete - slab . Roofing will be non-combustible steel sheet roofing supported by wood frame rafters with insulation and covered by 1/2" water-resistance sheet rock. 3 . Because of the presence of water and water vapor, all. electrical devices, wiring and lighting shall be protected at the source of electrical power by applicable ground fault interupter devices intended to maximize personal safety. 4 . Rafters TJI/35SP 16" 0 .C . are satisfactory for total dead and live load of 65 PSF with a maximum clear span of 22 ft . . The TJI/35SP rafters shall have web stiffeners (supplied by mfgr . ) at each support . 5. Roof purlins 2"x4" flat, 24" 0 .C. are satisfactory support for galvanized steel roofing if each purlin is long enough to span a minimum of 3-spans. 6 . Rafters should be supported at ledger end (against existing block wall) by any of the following Simpson Strong-Tie , Company- hangers (or equal) : a. IT3512 b. LB3512 c . IU3512 All hangers and rafters shall be installed as per applicable Simpson instructions . 7 . Ledger support at existing block wall to be as shown on accompanying sketch #1 . 8 . Anchor rafters at double top plate of new 10" CMU wall with Simpson Strong-Tie Company framing anchor H5 (for resisting uplift forces) . 9 . The R-30 fiberglass insulation (with kraft vapor barrier) should be installed between rafters finishing flush with bottom edge of rafters. Leave ventilated air space above insulation . Apply additional 6 mil layer of polyethylene sheeting below insulation, between rafters and sheetrock. Wood backer strips may be used on back side of sheetrock joints if vapor barrier is not torn or punctured . Engineering Evaluation for Garvey Volkswagon , Page 2 of 2 Pages 10 . Lintels over the 10-ft . doorways must support the blocks above the doorway,, plus the roof loads . Total uniform load on each lintel will be 9, 000 lbs. (or 900 lbs. per lineal foot) . They may be either reinforced concrete or steel, designed to support this load (see Sketch #2 for one satisfactory lintel) . The reinforced concrete lintel, probably in the form of a bond beam, must still be designed if it is intended to be used instead of the composite steel/concrete lintel shown in the sketch. 11 . Top course of blocks at outboard wall supporting rafters must incorporate 3/8" dia. anchor bolts, 32" 0.C. , to anchor the double top plate to wall . 12 . The outboard 10" CMU wall, above the 6" concrete slab, should have two (2) vertical #4 rebars installed in each outer core of the 2 ft . wide middle masonry walls between the doors (4 bars per 2 ft . wide wall section) . These bars shall be tied to corresponding dowels poured in floor and extend to top of wall (under linels) and these outer cores poured with concrete from floor to underside of lintel. Each lintel shall be fastened to anchor bolts set in the top course of the 2ft . wide wall sections . 13 . The perimeter slab insulation should be 2" x 24" both vertical and horizontally. 14 . The 6" conctrete floor slab of 3, 000 PSI concrete reinforced ,with 6x6-10-10 WWF is satisfactory as shown on plans. Floor to be sloped to drains as shown on plans . 15 . The new end walls butting the existing block wall should be anchored to the existing wall so that they are prevented from moving laterally. • See Sketch #3 for a suggested Method 'of doing this . 16 .
