Please note my approval for the following changes to the plans issued: 1. Rather than backfilling the concrete footing, the excavation may be filled with concrete to the top of slab elevation, as long as the rebar is properly placed in the bottom of the footing (3 inches off the ground). 2. Where the 2x12 floor joist is bearing on the foundation wall, at the location of the proposed column on the south end of the proposed beam; 2x12 blocking can be fastened to the floor joist on either side to provide an adequate bearing surface, and the 4x4 column can bear on this. A Simpson post base should be used to ensure that the column is properly fasted to the floor joists and blocking. Please note my approval for the following changes to the plans issued: 1. Rather than backfilling the concrete footing, the excavation may be filled with concrete to the top of slab elevation, as long as the rebar is properly placed in the bottom of the footing (3 inches off the ground). 2. Where the 2x12 floor joist is bearing on the foundation wall, at the location of the proposed column on the south end of the proposed beam; 2x12 blocking can be fastened to the floor joist on either side to provide an adequate bearing surface, and the 4x4 column can bear on this. A Simpson post base should be used to ensure that the column is properly fasted to the floor joists and blocking.
