The replacement septic system as installed was for a four bedroom home and consisted of the existing 1250 gallon septic tank, new distribution box and a 20 ft wide by 40 ft long absorption bed constructed of 4" diameter perforated pipe & stone. As per our conversation the residence has an existing failed septic system. We have reviewed the proposed replacement septic system design and we agree that a standard absorption bed is acceptable. Based upon a design flow rate of 440 GPD and a percolation rate of 11 to 15 minutes, you will need 734 square feet of absorptive area. We recommend using a 20 ft wide by 40 ft long absorption bed with 4 — 35 foot long laterals, which will provide 800 sf of absorptive area. The absorption bed should be constructed with a new distribution box, 4 inch diameter perforated pipe and stone. Please note that we highly recommend that after the system is constructed that topsoil and seeding be immediately performed so that a permanent lawn can be established to allow stormwater to be directed around the system.
