During the course of construction I was on the job site to observe key components of the system installation and the `start-up' of the pump system. Note that the plan shows a sectional view (Sheet 2)that indicates a slight retaining wall along the parking space end(southern)of the field. Final grading of the field area resulted in no need to install the `wall'. All other aspects of the work were constructed as designed and using the materials as specified. Based on my inspection of the system installation it is my opinion that the wastewater system is in compliance with the intent of the approved design plan and is ready for operation. Attached is the deep test hole log pertaining to this project. A test hole was conducted immediately to the east of the existing residence, in the general area depicted on the submitted Site Plan Drawing S-1 from Hutchins Engineering. Soils present are well drained loamy sands, which become more gravelly at a depth of 30±inches.According to the field data collected,the maximum observed height of groundwater is approximately 76± inches below existing grade. In accordance with Town code, any septic system design submitted should satisfy the following minimum requirements: A. The natural ground intended for the leaching facility must have a minimum depth of three feet of usable soil above bedrock, impervious material or maximum high seasonal groundwater within 1,000 feet of the shoreline of Lake George. B. No sewage disposal fill or mound system may be located within 200 feet of the shorelines of Lake George. For the repair or replacement of existing systems, the distance may be a minimum of 100 feet. C. No leaching facility will be permitted within 200 feet of the mean high-water mark of a lake,pond, river or permanent or intermittent stream if the percolation rate is zero to three minutes per inch. A system may be allowed within 200 feet of the shoreline if corrective measures are taken to reduce the percolation rate to a minimum of seven to ten minutes per inch, provided that all other requirements are met. D. The system must comply with all vertical and horizontal separation distances required by the Waste Treatment Handbook of the New York State Department of Health (Appendix 75-A).
